Description

The Preschool Assistant Teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God.

The Preschool Assistant Teacher shall be a born-again college graduate, certified or certifiable, who feels called by God to the teaching profession. The Board, as deemed appropriate, may add other qualifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Reflect on the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and in every activity.
  2. Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith.
  3. Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
  4. Cooperate with the Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures and directives governing the operation of the school.
  5. Teach classes as assigned following the prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the Head of School.
  6. Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
  7. Assist in implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher.
  8. Assist and planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  9. Provides the children with verbal praises and acceptance while providing clear and consistent expectations for the children’s behavior.
  10. Accepts responsibility for maintenance and necessary housekeeping duties of the classroom, common-use areas, and playgrounds.
  11. Assists and coordinates snacks, meals, nap time, and bathroom activities.
  12. Abides by the Teacher Contract that was signed.
  13. Assists in other capacities as determined by the Preschool Director.
  14. Attends all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions as determined by the Director.
  15. Observes all rules and regulations of FCP and the local, state, or national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety, and care of children.
  16. Observes the policies in the FCP Staff Handbook.
  17. Maintains overall professional personal appearances adhering to the guidelines offered in the employee handbook.
  18. Escort students to different areas within the facility throughout the day.
  19. Supervise the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.
  20. Supervise students during lunch and recess.
  21. Clean the cafeteria tables and recess equipment.
  22. Help with general housekeeping tasks.
  23. Assist the teacher in any other appropriate ways.
  24. Maintain professional attitudes and loyalty to the school at all times.
  25. Treat all children with dignity and respect.
  26. Attend staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must meet or be able to meet the basic requirements for childcare with the Department of Children and Families.
  • Ability to relate positively with young children.
  • Certification or degree related to early childhood or preschool, or elementary education is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge as a parent or in previous work experience of the social, emotional, and creative needs of young children.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations.
  • Active Christian who feels called by God to the school environment and child development.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must meet all of FCP, local, state, or national basic health requirements as well as other requirements.
  • Complete First Aid training before employment begins.
  • Complete and successfully pass the criminal fingerprinting required by the Department of Children and Families before employment begins.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, Head of Schools, district staff, and the community.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral communication, problem-solving and organizational skills are required to facilitate teaching and student development effectively.
  • Ability to support teams in the development of common assessments to inform instruction.
