Preschool Teacher

This position is responsible for the program development and implementation, supervision of children and working as a member of a team in a preschool setting. Staff is responsible for ensuring children’s social, physical, and mental development in the program.

Essential Functions:

1. Collaborate with preschool coordinator in planning and leading a creative program that is age-appropriate for preschool-age children. Plans daily and monthly activities for the program, usually developmentally based. 

2. Organize and present lessons prepared by preschool coordinator. 

3. Monitor and report behavior of students.

4. Supervise and be actively involved with children assigned to your activity area. You are responsible for the health and safety of children at all times and knowing all emergency protocol. 

5. Provide leadership for activities. Both small and large group activities (i.e., sign-in, out/circle time/huddle/values discussion/asset development/games & crafts). 

6. Attend and participate in meetings may include recommended or mandatory training programs. 

7. Care and help with maintenance of equipment and site appearance. Includes daily clean-up of activities and site, as well as scheduled site maintenance. 

8. Treat all children with dignity and respect. Follow discipline procedures as outlined by preschool coordinator 

9. Support student’s academic endeavors and studies so they are kindergarten-ready.

10. Help supervise program in absence of preschool coordinator.  

11. Engage in behavior conducive to team building with other staff. Open communication, encouragement, support and tolerance for each other are all essential in our department. 

12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

13. Act as a professional role model. You are representing the YMCA and our core values.

1. Must be at least 21 years old. 

2. Must have at least 12 months experience working as a lead in a classroom. 

3.. Ability to successfully complete background check as required by the Commonwealth of Kentucky 

4. Up to date TB test. 

5. Up to date first aid and cpr certification
