President & Chief Executive Officer

Job Description - President & Chief Executive Officer

Help shape what comes next for one of Whatcom County's most trusted youth-serving organizations.

Founded in 1946, Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County (BGCWC) has been a cornerstone of youth development in our community for 80 years. Today, we operate four Clubhouses and four licensed Early Learning Centers, serving young people and families across Whatcom County.

We are seeking an experienced, visionary, and deeply relational Chief Executive Officer to lead BGCWC into its next chapter.

This is an opportunity for a leader who believes that great organizations are built around extraordinary people - and that when we invest in the people who serve young people, we create stronger outcomes for everyone.

The next CEO will lead an established organization with a strong community reputation, committed staff, engaged volunteers, and a clear mission, while also helping shape the future of the organization.

BGCWC is continuing to strengthen its organizational structure, systems, programs, and culture to meet the changing needs of young people and families. The CEO will help bring these pieces together with a clear focus on our mission:

To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

The ideal candidate will be both strategic and hands-on-someone who can see the big picture while understanding that successful leadership often happens in the details.

The CEO will provide overall leadership for BGCWC's programs, people, operations, finances, fundraising, partnerships, and community presence. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and advance a compelling organizational vision and strategic direction in partnership with the Board of Directors and senior leadership team.

  • Mission & Program Impact: Ensure that programs and services remain centered on the needs of young people, particularly those who need us most, and are informed by strong youth development practices and measurable outcomes.

  • People & Culture: Build a healthy, accountable, inclusive, and high-performing organizational culture. Develop and empower leaders while creating an environment where staff can do their best work.

  • Organizational Development: Strengthen the systems, structures, policies, and processes necessary to support sustainable growth and effective operations.

  • Financial Leadership: Maintain strong financial stewardship and sustainability while working closely with the Board, Finance Committee, and leadership team to align resources with organizational priorities.

  • Fundraising & Resource Development: Serve as a compelling ambassador for BGCWC, building relationships with donors, foundations, businesses, government partners, and community leaders.

  • Community Leadership: Represent BGCWC as a visible and trusted leader throughout Whatcom County and build partnerships that expand opportunities for young people and families.

  • Board Partnership: Maintain a strong, transparent, and collaborative relationship with the Board of Directors, providing the information and leadership necessary for effective governance.

  • Advocacy & Visibility: Elevate awareness of the role Boys & Girls Clubs play in the health, development, and future of our community.

They will be comfortable leading through change, building trust, developing people, strengthening systems, cultivating community partnerships, and telling the story of why young people need Boys & Girls Clubs now more than ever. We are looking for a leader who brings a combination of vision, emotional intelligence, business acumen, and a genuine belief in the potential of young people.
