Position Title: Primary Therapist
Location: Mental Health Facility, Florida
Reports To: Program Supervisor/Clinical Director 

Position Summary 

The Primary Therapist provides direct therapeutic services to individuals in a mental health treatment facility, including assessment, counseling, group facilitation, and family therapy. This role develops, implements, and monitors individualized treatment plans while ensuring compliance with Florida DCF regulations, the Baker Act, and accrediting body standards (Joint Commission/CARF). The Primary Therapist supports patient stabilization, recovery, and long-term wellness through evidence-based therapeutic practices. 

Key Responsibilities 

Clinical Services 

• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, intake evaluations, and mental health risk assessments (suicide/self-harm screenings). 
• Develop and update individualized treatment plans with measurable goals. 
• Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based approaches. 
• Facilitate psychoeducational and process groups addressing coping skills, relapse prevention, trauma, and wellness. 
• Provide crisis intervention for psychiatric and behavioral health emergencies. 

Documentation & Compliance 

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). 
• Ensure treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries meet DCF and accrediting body standards. 
• Uphold confidentiality standards under HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. 
• Document Baker Act-related assessments and proceedings when applicable. 

Collaboration & Communication 

• Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings with psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, and support staff. 
• Coordinate care with referral sources, families, and outside providers when appropriate. 
• Provide clinical input for Baker Act hearings, court reports, and legal documentation as required.
