The Simulator Enterprise Architecture (SEA) unit within Naval Training and Simulation (NTS) builds and maintains the complex information technology infrastructure, systems, and services that support mission-critical simulation training products deployed across diverse Naval facilities. As these systems become more sophisticated and interconnected, maintaining a resilient and responsive cybersecurity framework becomes increasingly essential. The successful candidate will be one of the Information Systems Security Officers (ISSO) for the network and will be one of the leads for our defense-in-depth strategy. The team needs a high-level expert who can bridge the gap between security policy, technical hardening, and customer support.
Specific duties for this role include:
- Establishing and overseeing a culture of cybersecurity by educating and enabling NTS personnel to meet cybersecurity requirements
- Communicating the importance and practice of cybersecurity to NTS personnel and senior management, and providing cybersecurity guidance and leadership
- Assisting and training junior team members in risk management processes, use of security tools, conducting risk analyses, and maintaining the Security Authorization Package (SAP)
- Contributing to the development of organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal standards and business objectives
- Collaborating with cybersecurity professionals across the organization to align on processes, strategies, and policies
- Keeping senior management informed of cybersecurity impacting changes or events that occur on the network, and providing solutions or resolutions to those events
- Reviewing and updating the SAP artifacts to ensure continued compliance
- Leading risk management processes and providing analyses of cybersecurity risk for new and current projects, proposing risk responses, guiding completion of Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and assisting in submitting Cybersecurity Change Requests (CSCRs) for approval to use the requested IT resource
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
