Our employees are not only part of history, they\u0027re making history.\n\nNorthrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Principal Engineer Manufacturing, based out of Sunnyvale, CA.\n\nWhat you will get to do:\n\n * Lead, track, execute, and audit Site\u2011Wide 5S Implementation\n * Develop, communicate, and enforce the 5S (Sort, Set\u2011in\u2011order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) standards and monthly audits across all work areas.\n * Conduct regular 5S audits, scorecards, and visual management reviews; report findings to leadership and drive corrective actions.\n * Train supervisors, team leads, and operators on 5S principles, tools, and best practices; create easy\u2011to\u2011follow work instructions and visual guides.\n * Coordinate cross\u2011functional 5S events (kaizens, blitzes, and quarterly clean\u2011up days) to maintain high\u2010level organization and safety.\n * Design, Launch, and Manage the I\u2011Card (Improvement Idea) Suggestion Program\n * Establish the I\u2011Card process flow (submission, review, evaluation, implementation, feedback) and integrate it into the existing continuous\u2011improvement platform.\n * Create simple, accessible templates (paper and digital) for floor\u2011team members to submit ideas on process efficiency, quality, and safety.\n * Form a multidisciplinary review board; define evaluation criteria (impact, cost, feasibility) and set turnaround time targets.\n * Track all suggestions in a centralized database, generate regular performance reports, and recognize contributors through incentive programs.\n * Facilitate Idea Implementation\n * Prioritize high\u2011value I\u2011Card ideas; develop project charters, timelines, and resource plans.\n * Lead pilot tests, gather data, and validate results; scale successful pilots to the entire site.\n * Document lessons learned and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and visual controls accordingly.\n * Safety \u0026 Compliance Integration\n * Align 5S and I\u2011Card activities with occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements.\n * Conduct risk assessments for proposed changes; ensure that all improvements enhance workplace safety.\n * Promote a safety\u2011first culture by highlighting safety\u2011focused suggestions during meetings and visual displays.\n * Performance Measurement \u0026 Continuous Feedback\n * Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for 5S (e.g., audit scores, audit frequency) and I\u2011Card (e.g., number of suggestions, implementation rate, cost savings, safety incidents reduced).\n * Produce weekly/monthly dashboards for management review; use data to drive further improvement cycles.\n * Gather feedback from floor teams on the usability of 5S tools and the I\u2011Card system; iterate to improve user experience.\n * Cross\u2011Functional Collaboration\n * Partner with Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and CI team to ensure alignment of improvement initiatives with overall business objectives.\n * Support other lean tools (Value\u2011stream mapping, TPM, poka\u2011yoke, Quality build in station)\n * Coaching \u0026 Cultural Development\n * Mentor supervisors and \u201clean champions\u201d to sustain 5S habits and encourage proactive idea generation.\n * Conduct workshops, short \u201cbrown\u2011bag\u201d sessions, and visual board updates to keep a continuous\u2011improvement mindset top\u2011of\u2011mind.\n * Documentation \u0026 Reporting\n * Maintain up\u2011to\u2011date documentation of 5S standards, I\u2011Card procedures, and improvement project records.\n * Prepare executive summaries for senior leadership outlining cost\u2011benefit analyses, safety impact, and strategic alignment of improvement activities.\n * Continuous\u2011Improvement (CI) Repository System\n * Maintain a centralized CI repository that stores all improvement projects, methodologies, templates, SOPs, and lesson\u2011learned documents.\n * Produce dashboards and quarterly reports that visualize repository usage, improvement\u2011trend metrics, and ROI of captured CI initiatives.\n * Conduct training sessions and develop user guides to promote adoption of the repository among engineers, operators, and cross\u2011functional teams.\n * Act as the subject\u2011matter expert for audit readiness, providing auditors with quick access to documented CI evidence and traceability records\n\n\n * Position Summary / Responsibilities:\n * Lead site\u2011wide 5S implementation: develop standards, run audits, train teams, and drive corrective actions.\n * Design, launch, and manage the I\u2011Card (Improvement Idea) suggestion program, from submission workflow to performance reporting and incentives.\n * Facilitate rapid idea implementation: prioritize high\u2011impact suggestions, run pilots, scale successes, and update shop operating plans and SOPs.\n * Integrate safety and compliance into all 5S and I\u2011Card activities, conducting risk assessments and promoting a safety\u2011first culture.\n * Define and track KPIs for 5S, suggestion systems, etc., delivering dashboards and continuous\u2011feedback loops to senior leadership.\n * Coach supervisors and lean champions, partner with cross\u2011functional teams, and maintain comprehensive documentation and executive reports.\n * Design and maintain a Central Repository for all continuous\u2011improvement documentation (projects, templates, SOPs, lessons learned).\n * Serve as the subject\u2011matter expert for audit readiness, providing quick access to documented CI evidence.\n\n\n\nBasic Qualifications for Principal Engineer Manufacturing:\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering degree.\n * A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in manufacturing/production improvement, capacity planning, or industrial engineering roles\n * Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies\n * Experience with data visualizations and reporting\n * Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.\n\n * U.S. Citizenship required\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications for Principal Engineer Manufacturing:\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree in STEM in Mechanical Engineering.\n\n * Test Facility and/or Power Generation/Chemical Facility operational experience.\n\n * Design Software Acuity (AutoCAD, Cero, Solidworks, or equivalent). \n\n * Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt) or equivalent continuous improvement certification\n\n * Active Secret Clearance\n\n\n\n\nWhat We Can Offer You: \nNorthrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment that encourages your growth and supports the mutual success of our people and our company. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
