Job Description - Principal Faculty and Assistant/Associate Professor, Physician Assistant Studies

The Principal Faculty member in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies is a full-time role focused on delivering high-quality education, advising, and evaluation while contributing to service and scholarship. This position plays a vital role in advancing the program's mission and fostering student success.  Anticipated start date of 8/10/2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging academic instruction, provide counseling, and advise students during both didactic and clinical phases of the program.

  • Serve as Course Director and Instructor for assigned didactic courses.

  • Assess student performance through written exams, practical evaluations, and simulations in didactic and clinical courses.

  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous program improvement.

  • Engage in peer evaluations, attend faculty/staff meetings, and participate in professional development, including conferences.

  • Identify and support “at-risk” students in collaboration with the Associate Program Director and Program Director.

  • Facilitate tutorials and remediation processes to promote student success.

  • Participate in the student admissions process, including applicant interviews.

  • Support maintenance of ARC-PA accreditation and contribute to program enhancement initiatives, including self-study documentation and site-specific compliance efforts.

  • Actively uphold the mission and vision of the program and university.

  • Represent the program through involvement in local, state, and national professional organizations.

  • Pursue scholarly activities and service that align with the program, university, and profession.

  • Contribute to faculty development and research efforts that support the program's mission.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Distant Campus Operations on day-to-day campus activities, resource coordination, and operational needs to ensure smooth functioning of the distant campus.

  • Provide on-site leadership and support for the Hendersonville campus, including coordination of didactic delivery, student engagement, and integration with the main campus.

  • Participate in clinical site development, preceptorship coordination, and maintenance of clinical affiliations relevant to the distant campus region.

  • Foster inter-campus communication and collaboration with main campus faculty, staff, and leadership to align curriculum, assessments, and program standards across sites.

  • Adapt to evolving departmental needs, with responsibilities varying as required.

  • Report directly to the Program Director

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication to effectively engage with students, staff, faculty, preceptors, clinical site staff, and administrators.

  • Honesty, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.

  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel to the Hendersonville campus (150 miles).

 

Education and Experience:

  • Master's or doctoral degree as a Physician Assistant from a regionally accredited institution with current NCCPA certification.

  • Current unrestricted North Carolina PA licensure or eligibility to obtain within six months.

  • Minimum of three years of clinical practice experience

  • Experience practicing in a surgical setting is preferred

  • Previous teaching experience in a physician assistant program or other graduate medical education program preferred.
