Principal Mechanical Engineer

An established and highly regarded engineering consulting firm is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its Honolulu-based team. Position Summary:

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical leader, overseeing mechanical design efforts across multiple projects. This role involves leading teams, managing client relationships, and ensuring high-quality project delivery from concept through construction. This position is based in Downtown Honolulu and follows a hybrid work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead mechanical (MEP) design efforts for a variety of building projects, including commercial, healthcare, education, and hospitality sectors.


• Provide oversight for mechanical design deliverables, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and system layouts.


• Act as Engineer of Record (EOR) on projects as needed.


• Manage and mentor mechanical engineering staff.


• Support construction administration activities, including site observations and coordination with contractors.


• Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development efforts.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.


• 10–15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering within the A/E consulting industry.


• Strong expertise in HVAC systems design across commercial and institutional projects.


• Knowledge of relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.


• Proven leadership experience managing projects and teams.


• Applicants must currently reside in Hawaii.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.


• Experience with Revit and energy modeling tools (e.g., Trace 700, EnergyPlus).
