Principal Certification Engineer
Irvine, CA and or Orlando, FL (Hybrid)
Position Summary
Thales is looking for a Principal Certification Engineer, whose role is to lead and govern the FAA certification strategy and execution for complex, high-impact programs within the In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) and aircraft communications domains. This role is responsible for ensuring structural compliance, certification integrity, and regulatory alignment across the full product lifecycle, including Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) and airframe manufacturer Type Certificate projects.
In this position, you will provide project-level technical leadership, regulatory interpretation, and certification strategy across multiple programs, helping ensure compliance with FAA requirements while supporting design decisions, certification planning, and program risk management. You will serve as a key interface with FAA ODA, airframe manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to define certification frameworks, establish best practices, and maintain consistent compliance standards across programs. Partnering closely with engineering, program management, certification, and cross-functional teams, you will help drive efficient certification execution, support evolving regulatory requirements, mentor engineers, and strengthen the organization’s overall technical certification capability.

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between
Total Target Cash (TTC) 111,486.00 - 187,601.25 USD AnnualThis reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity. Thales may offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, state, or federal law.
