Title: Product and Retail Manager

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Classification/FLSA Status: Regular Full-time/Exempt

Location: Grand Rapids

Position Summary: 

The Product and Retail Manager develops, coordinates, and implements tactical plans that support the council’s product programs, retail operations, and customer care services. This position is responsible for organizing and managing product program activities, retail operations, and customer service functions in alignment with council goals, policies, standards, and GSUSA guidelines.

The Product and Retail Manager supports increased product program participation and sales by overseeing day-to-day product program operations, volunteer support, training, promotions, and vendor relationships. This role also supports retail and customer care operations by ensuring high-quality service, effective merchandising, and operational efficiency for internal and external customers. This position is responsible for financial planning and analysis related to product programs and retail operations, including budget management, sales forecasting, inventory planning, revenue tracking, and ensuring financial performance aligns with council objectives.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate and manage all aspects of council product program activities including data management, training, inventory, volunteer support, marketing and promotion, vendor relations, and product and incentive selection.

2. Assist in developing and implementing marketing strategies designed to increase participation and sales, including coordination of logistics, volunteer engagement, safety and risk management compliance, and maintenance of materials and inventory.

3. In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer, develop, manage, and monitor annual budgets for product programs and retail operations. Prepare sales forecasts, revenue projections, inventory plans, and financial analyses to support organizational budgeting and strategic decision-making.

4. Evaluate Product Program Volunteers and make independent recommendations regarding their development, recognition, and ongoing deployment to ensure alignment with council goals, policies, standards, and GSUSA guidelines.

5. Coordinate the recruitment, training, and support of operational volunteers and girls participating in product programs.

6. Build and maintain relationships with local businesses and community organizations to identify sales opportunities, strengthen community partnerships, and promote Girl Scout product programs and council visibility.

7. Oversee the collection and reconciliation of product program funds and work collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer regarding delinquent account follow-up and collection procedures.

8. Develop annual retail shop operating budgets and sales goals; make independent decisions on merchandising strategy, inventory investment, and promotional execution to optimize retail performance and achieve projected sales objectives.

9. Supervise, train, and schedule support staff to ensure efficient and professional operations that meet the evolving needs of internal and external customers.

10. Analyze product program and retail performance metrics, including participation trends, sales results, inventory levels, and financial outcomes. Develop forecasts and recommendations to maximize revenue, improve operational efficiency, and support council financial goals.

11. Participate in, support, and advocate for all council activities and initiatives.

12. Champion belonging and inclusion in all aspects of operations, volunteer engagement, and team culture in alignment with council values and GSUSA guidelines.

13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s      degree in business, finance, accounting, marketing, retail management,      nonprofit management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination      of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum      of three to five years of experience in retail operations, product sales,      customer service, program management, or related operational leadership      experience.
  • Demonstrated      ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and operational priorities      effectively.

Strong organizational, communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience      supervising staff and working collaboratively with volunteers preferred.
  • Demonstrated      financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, revenue      management, inventory planning, financial reporting, and analysis of sales      performance metrics.
  • Proficiency      with Microsoft Office and database management systems.
  • Ability      to travel throughout the council jurisdiction and work evenings or      weekends as needed.
  • Valid      driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance      required.
  • Registration      as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA required.
  • Must      be able to lift up to 20 pounds on a regular basis during designated times      of the product program cycle.
