Job Description - Program Leader

Job Title: Program Leader

Since 1891, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) has provided high-quality, community-based youth development services to youth in San Francisco. Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Position Purpose

A Program Leader at a School-Based Club possesses robust youth development skills rooted in their relationships with youth, faculty, and families, complemented by their extensive knowledge and experience in the field. They demonstrate the capacity to effectively oversee their department, consistently managing groups of children. 

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 25 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours during the summer

This role is available at our Bayshore School-Based Club. 

KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES): 

Programming – 60% 

  • Plan, prepare, and implement a range of activities and programs related to STEM, Literacy, Wellness, Fitness, or Nutrition for youth daily.
  • Ensure programs and activities meet member and organizational needs, including safety, enrichment, quality, and fun. 
  • Monitor programs continuously and reflect on the success of a program regularly.
  • Track program attendance and record behavioral incidents daily using Salesforce.
  • Incorporate activities and practices that reduce trauma and increase wellness, as shared and recommended by Behavioral Health Services’ (BHS). 
  • Develop and execute annual goals in alignment with organizational and club expectations. 
  • Adhere to Club’s meal service program protocols. 
  • Transport Club members as needed and approved by the supervisor. 

Leadership – 30 % 

  • Utilize Club’s Positive Behavior Policy when holding members accountable to agreements.
  • Compliance with the Club’s Restroom Policy. 
  • Manage inventory of all cleaning and program equipment and supplies. Inform leadership of supplies needed. 
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members. 
  • Ensure a healthy, safe, and inclusive environment and safeguard the confidentiality of all youth. 
  • Maintain contact as needed with members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
  • At all times maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. 

Other Duties – 10% 

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and training. 
  • Attend all BGCSF mandatory training. 
  • Perform any other duties the Club Leadership might deem necessary and supportive of the best interest of the Club and the overall organization. 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with the primary age group youth
  • Ability to set and hold strong and effective boundaries and expectations with youth. 
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment with continual distractions
  • Create and follow systems and procedures 
  • Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment. 
  • Ability to shift without prior notice – having a flexible mindset
  • Maintain an organized space and materials 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED: 

  • Spanish Speaker
  • BA/BS from an accredited college or university or equivalent youth development and office management experience 
  • Prior experience using data tracking software similar to Salesforce
  • Program or Lesson Plan development
  • Experience working with 1st and 2nd grade, in a classroom or afterschool/out-of-school-time setting
  • Specific interest in STEM, Literacy, Sports, or Recreation
  • Experience working with Google Workplace, including Drive, Sheets, Gmail, Chat, and Docs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively
  • Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time

PAY

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs.  At BGCSF,  our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position.  Depending on the need and requirement of the position,  an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation.  As such, a reasonable estimate of the current range is $24.00-$25.00 per hour.
