Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Program Specialist has the general duties of assisting the Program Supervisor in providing services and supports for individuals with disabilities; within the areas, but not limited to, programing; variety of integrated activities such as planning and leading opportunities for growth and development, encourage participation in activities, providing instruction, and carrying out supports related to the physical well being and comfort of persons served. In addition to the above duties, the Program Specialist typically may be assigned to a particular area with responsibility for the oversight and coordination of the activities in that area. This role may include the support and training of staff, interns, and volunteers as assigned. Additional assisting duties may be assigned as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service Delivery:
- Provide supervision, support and instruction to one or more persons served in a variety of activities and environments.
- Responsible for the safety of all individuals served including observing and meeting safety requirements and precautions in both facility and community based activities and all equipment’s used.
- Assist individuals with eating, toileting, personal hygiene, dressing, and other daily living skills as needed.
- Provide physical assistance to persons served including transferring, pushing wheelchairs, loading, and unloading from vehicles, and physical guidance as needed.
- Responsible and ensure program rooms and materials are available for activities, including, but not limited to, appropriate set-up and break down, gathering of supplies, returning of items, etc.
- Assist and provide all other aspects of service delivery, as needed
Program Coordination:
- Responsible for planning, facilitating, executing and evaluating social, vocational, recreational, self-help/advocacy and/or developmental activities and skills training through in-center groups, work activities, and community based outings in accordance with the individual’s service plan.
- Understand, model, and consistently apply basic and appropriate teaching strategies and behavior management principles when working with persons served.
- Demonstrate ability to adapt teaching techniques, materials, and equipment to meet individual/group abilities, needs, and interests.
- Work in collaboration with referral sources, family members, other service providers, and staff to ensure consistent service planning.
- Provide other aspects of program coordination as needed.
Administrative/Professional:
- Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of individual service plans based on individual goals, objectives, and needs/interests. Attend planning meetings as required.
- Initiate correspondence, either oral or written, on successes, specific problems, or concerns. Maintains and follows required reporting and documentation guidelines and requirements
- Works effectively as part of a team in a professional, respectful, friendly, and hospitable manner in all interactions, including but not limited to, persons served, care provides, PRRC staff, affiliated organizations, and the community-at-large; while maintaining positive, professional relations and accomplishing PRRC’s mission.
- Assist Services Supervisor and other staff in the preparation of programs, announcements, bulletins, and related materials as needed.
- Attend staff meetings and professional growth trainings and classes including but not limited to in-services, conferences and workshops.
- Perform other administrative and professional support as needed
Specialist Duties:
- Primary responsibility for daily/weekly/monthly planning of structured activities in assigned areas as required from conception to completion. This includes, but not limited to, scheduling, conducting, overseeing, documenting, and refinement.
- Identify and collaboratively work with Program Leaders and/or other team members in use of community and center resources to enhance individual growth and development in programming for individuals served.
- Assist Services Supervisor with support and training of staff, interns, or volunteers as needed.
- In collaboration with the Services Supervisor, PRRC staff, and other team members to develop, coordinate, and integrate new ideas, activities and learning opportunities for individuals served.
- Support and mentor staff in designing and providing activities, which includes filling in programs when needed.
- Assist Services Supervisor and Assistant Services Supervisor with any other duties and tasks that may be assigned.

Services Program Specialist must demonstrate the ability to perform and teach basic mathematical skills, operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance measurements. In addition to possess the ability to problem solve practical problems and deal with an array of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one to two step instructions. Bilingual preferred.
