Job Description - Project Manager

POSITION SUMMARY


As the Project Manager, you are responsible for planning, implementing, tracking, and reporting of assigned projects which have a beginning, an end, and specified deliverables. You will manage project risks, issues/problems, and activity progress to ensure project goals are achieved, and assist with problem resolution or risk mitigation as needed. The Project Manager identifies resources needed, assign major project roles and coordinate activities and tasks among project team members, other internal departments and client or vendor/subcontractor organizations as needed to meet project goals and ensure project completion is on schedule, within budget constraints, and of the appropriate quality standards for the project scope. As a representative of the Bank, you are required to present a positive and professional image at all times.


 


JOB REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration or other related discipline required; or the equivalent combination of education and experience that is required for the specific job level is required

  • Strong technical background to manage technical projects and handle competing interests required

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or the equivalent level of education and experience for the job level is preferred


 


COMPETENCIES



  • Possess knowledge of project management standards, processes, procedures and guidelines

  • Possess knowledge of the industry project management best practices, such as the Project Management Body of Knowledge

  • Possess knowledge of various types of IT project methodologies and life cycles (for example, conversions, incremental, rapid delivery, classic or traditional waterfall phases of analysis, design, development, testing and implementation) and the correct project application

  • Possess knowledge of standards relevant to the software industry (for example, ISO, CMM and Six Sigma)

  • Ability to adhere to the approved Project Management policy and procedures

  • Possess knowledge of financial services industry

  • Possess advanced skill in use of Project Management software to manage projects (such as MS Project and auxiliary tools like earned value database, audit tools, project repository, including risk, issues and action items database, SLIM Estimate, Metrics and Control)

  • Possess skill in the use of negotiation techniques to reach agreement when there are widely differing viewpoints

  • Demonstrated skill in managing project budgets and timelines

  • Possess excellent analysis, problem-solving, team, conflict management and time management skills

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact effectively with executive and senior management

  • Ability to set clear expectations, manage team performance and build high morale among team members

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and carry out assignments that are sensitive in nature

  • Ability to analyze contracts and invoices in order to give budget cost and spend recommendations.


 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Responsible for developing and communicating project management practices for the organization, preparing reporting for Executive Management and Technology Demand Management Team on the project pipeline and status of projects, and providing coaching to team members on project management disciplines

  • Manage project initiation activities that include identifying contractual obligations, bank needs and goals, existing situation, necessary contacts, and access to existing information as needed

  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of technical and non-technical projects from initiation through delivery

  • Focus on meeting project commitments, including communications with sponsors, stakeholders, team members, and external participants

  • Ensure requirements for internal projects align to operational standards and develop alternate requirements or document exceptions as appropriate

  • Develop, define and execute project plans, project scope, activities, schedules, budgets and deliverables

  • Identify needed resources for projects, and define and assign major project roles

  • Coordinate activities and tasks among project team members, other internal departments and client or vendor/subcontractor organizations as needed to meet project goals and ensure project completion is on schedule, within budget constraints, and of the appropriate quality standards for the project scope

  • Assign and monitor work of project team, providing technical and/or analytical support and direction, and interface with external clients or field-based employees on matters

  • Manage project risks, issues/problems, and activity progress to ensure project goals (for example, deadline, scope and quality) are achieved, and assist with problem resolution or risk mitigation as needed

  • May manage the integration of vendor/subcontractor tasks, and track and review vendor/subcontractor deliverables, if appropriate for the project

  • Serve as liaison between technical and non-technical teams, in internal organizations as well as in client and vendor/subcontractor organizations, to ensure all project targets and requirements are met

  • Deliver informational and decision-seeking presentations as required to Executive Management

  • Conduct project closure activities to formalize and communicate the project acceptance, handover documentation and ongoing activities to accountable teams and complete a post-implementation review to identify areas of improvement

  • Identify project management coordination process gaps or areas for improvement, recommends and implements solutions

  • Support budget planning by identifying cost savings and spend reductions

  • Maintain compliance with regulations and bank policies and procedures, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements

  • Consistently support, uphold and model the organization’s core values and standards

  • Complete other duties as assigned as determined by management to be reasonable and beneficial


 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively with team members, departments, management, clients, and vendors/subcontractors, both individually and in front of a group. Regular use of the telephone and email for communication is essential. Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time is common. Must be able to accurately gather and process verbal and written information and properly prepare or inspect documents. Good manual dexterity is needed for the frequent use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculators, copiers and telephones. Occasional out-of-town or overnight travel may be required. Occasional travel to NETN branches may be required.
