Are you ready to play a critical role in maintaining the reliability of the regional power grid? Our company, a premier provider of utility support and engineering solutions, is seeking a skilled and safety-minded Protection & Control Technician 2.



In this role, you will act as a key field asset supporting major electrical utility infrastructure through the installation, testing, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex electrical protection and control systems. From advanced microprocessor-based relays to vital SCADA systems, your technical expertise will directly ensure grid safety and integrity.



Key Responsibilities





  • Relay Testing & Calibration: Perform routine maintenance, modifications, and acceptance testing on both modern microprocessor-based and legacy electromechanical protective relays using specialized test software (e.g., Enoserv RTS, Doble ProTest).



  • Substation Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair high-voltage substation control circuits, battery banks, communication links, and automation technology on client utility sites.



  • System Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnose and isolate system mis-operations, component failures, equipment defects, or line disturbances, implementing prompt corrective actions to restore grid integrity.



  • Blueprints & Schematics: Read, interpret, and accurately update complex AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic prints to reflect field modifications.



  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain absolute adherence to corporate and utility safety philosophies, OSHA guidelines, and strict North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC CIP) standards.



  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain precise records of test results, equipment settings, maintenance logs, and compliance reports to satisfy utility client requirements.




Qualifications & Experience




Education & Training:



  • Associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, OR

  • Equivalent military electrical/power system training (e.g., Navy Nuclear, Army Prime Power), OR

  • Successful completion of a recognized utility controls or substation apprenticeship program.




Technical Skills:



  • Strong foundational background in electrical power systems, circuit theory, and control logic.

  • Familiarity with specialized diagnostic test equipment and industry-standard relay testing software.

  • Demonstrated ability to safely work around high-voltage equipment and control circuitry.



Core Requirements:



  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Willingness to travel to various client substation sites across the designated service territory.

  • Availability to respond to emergency call-outs, storm restoration support, and occasional overtime as required.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in team environments.
