Description

Unarmed Security Officer – Federal Site (Beltsville, MD)

  

Looking for unarmed officers with an unarmed DC SPO license or a Maryland security guard license, or who can obtain the license to work variable shifts and hours in Washington, DC, or Maryland. This is for a federal government site and needs to be able to obtain Public Trust suitability clearance.

  

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be eligible to perform under this PWS, all uniformed employees must meet, to the satisfaction of the USDA, the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen of the United States of America, including U.S. territories and/or Commonwealths. The COR may approve Lawful Permanent Residents who are current members of the U.S. Armed Services (Reserves or National Guard) or who possess an Honorable Discharge from a U.S. Military component. 
  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age.      
  • Have received, at minimum, a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) from an      accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. 
  • Fluently speak, read, comprehend, and compose coherent written reports in English. 
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computers, including the ability to operate standard office systems, complete electronic reports, utilize security management systems, and communicate effectively via email and digital platforms. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Maryland Security Guard License (or applicable      reciprocal certification). 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability clearance. 
  • Officers must complete (sign/date) a Lautenberg Amendment Statement/Domestic Violence Certification annually, in accordance with 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) (8) and (9). 

Experience/Education Requirements (Must meet one of the following):

  • Three (3) years of experience in physical security as a security officer (armed or unarmed); OR 
  • Two (2) years of military service (Active Duty, Reserves, or National Guard); OR 
  • Successful completion of a Federal or State-certified Law Enforcement Training Program or POST Academy; OR 
  • Any combination of two (2) years of physical security experience and military service; OR 
  • Associate’s degree or higher in, in a security-related, criminal justice, or law enforcement-related field.      

Military personnel: Must have an Honorable, General, or Other Than Honorable discharge. A Dishonorable discharge is not acceptable.

  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Contractor employees are expected to be physically able to perform the following tasks or functions in the performance of their assigned duties:

  • Physically subdue or engage in confrontation with individuals; 
  • Work under occasional tension or pressure; 
  • Work alone while unarmed; 
  • Walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time; 
  • Apply handcuffs when required;      
  • Respond to life-threatening or emergency situations; 
  • Work in inclement weather and low-light (night) conditions; 
  • Walk and drive on unpaved or uneven terrain; 
  • Open and close secured gates and access points; 
  • Climb multiple flights of stairs as required by site operations. 

  

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE:

  • Pay Rate: $28.25/hour 
  • Shift Differential: $0.50/hour (night shift) 

Available Shifts:  

  • 2300 – 0700: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 
  • 1500 – 2300: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 
  • Special Events - Times may vary

  


POSITION LEVELS (When/If needed):

Lead Officers:

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a security environment 

Junior Officers:

  • Must obtain applicable Maryland or Washington, DC Security Guard certification 

  



Requirements

  • Officers must obtain and maintain the applicable State of Maryland Security Guard Certification or Washington, District of Columbia Security Officer License, based on the assigned duty location. 
  • Officers who are regularly assigned to perform duties in both Maryland and the District of Columbia must obtain and maintain both licenses in accordance with jurisdictional requirements. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license when required by site assignment (e.g., BARC or similar federal facilities). 
  • All Protective Officers under this contract meet the most current contract requirements and meet federal contract standards and maintain all required credentials, certifications, and clearances as a condition of employment. 
  • Must be able to be proficient on a computer.
