Description

Sets up, operates and troubleshoots for self and/or others any and all types of punch presses; checks parts dimensionally; sets up and maintains auxiliary equipment such as straighteners and reels; and determines necessary tooling repairs at end of run.  Maintains tool location and records of dies where applicable. Generates move orders.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Set up, operate and trouble shoot any and all types of punch presses.
  • Visually check parts for obvious defects.
  • Check parts dimensionally, based on blueprints and layouts
  • Set up and maintain auxiliary equipment such as straighteners and reels
  • Determine necessary tooling, service or repairs at end of run.
  • Place and fasten tools in machine according to layout instructions.
  • Make required setting and adjustment to feeds, cams, tapping heads, speeds and micro switches.
  • Detect and analyze any setup difficulty and make corrective adjustments to produce quality acceptable parts.
  • Adjust air and knockouts for parts ejection and check setup for observance of safety standards.
  • Make necessary machine adjustments to meet print, layout and gauge specifications, using such measuring tools as comparators, micrometers, vernier, protractors, scales and furnished gauging.
  • Continue to check parts visually and dimensionally throughout the production run
  • Operate machine and maintain machine process.
  • Visually observe machine process for such things as: stock misfeeds, improper parts ejection, improper functioning of reels and straighteners.
  • Position parts container to avoid damaged parts when filling or in a filled condition.
  • Notify stores of anticipated needs of containers and stock to avoid interrupted production.
  • Maintain neat and orderly immediate work area.
  • Check tooling at end of run for such things as wear and broken details.
  • Write up repair orders specifying needed repair.
  • Maintain efficient storage area to facilitate handling and storage of dies.
  • MOS - Embrace and engage in the Manufacturing Operating System (MOS) including activities, but not limited to Safety & Behavioral Observation Process (BOP), 5S, Continuous Improvement (Kaizen), Tiered Accountability Process, Standard Work, Rapid Problem Solving (RPS), Built In Quality (BIQ),  Coaching, Total productive Maintenance (TPM) and Knowledge Sharing.



YOU MUST HAVE:
 

  • 1 year experience setting up, operating and troubleshooting 150 to 400 ton punch press equipment using progressive tooling.
  • 1 year of experience setting up, operating and troubleshooting punch press equipment. Must be able to understand and apply independent judgment in the use of comparators, protractors, micrometers, scales and furnished gauges.
  • Continuous visual attention required when operating equipment and sustained physical when performing setting up of machines.
