Job Description - Qualified Behavior Modification Professional (QBMP)

Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Oversees the clinical functions of a Community Crisis Home (CCH) and/or Enhanced Behavior Support Home (EBSH), regularly monitoring implementation and outcomes of Individual Behavior Support Plans (IBSPs) for persons supported and escalating concerns or issues to Clinical Director and/or program leadership.

  • Demonstrates and models professionalism and all skills of direct care staff with a person-centered and trauma-informed approach that emphasizes YAI’s culture and mission and positive behavior supports.  

  • Collaborates with the Clinical Director and program staff to ensure the clinical needs of the people YAI supports are addressed.

  • Leads the development and implementation of the IBSP, using objectives to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions through data collection, review, analysis and education of the residential team and ensures appropriate resources are available for use in implementation.

  • Regularly conducts direct and indirect assessments of behavior, including Functional Behavior Assessments, for persons supported in assigned residence; participates in clinical consultations, as requested.

  • Completes and submits admission, weekly and/or monthly clinical reports to the Regional Center in accordance with reporting guidelines.

  • Consults with Individual Behavior Support Team (IBST) and program leadership to ensure streamlined and top-quality care for individuals, attending and actively participating in team meetings, including contributing to the agenda for weekly clinical review meetings, submitting QBMP hours for approval as required for compliance and billing, providing training regarding updates and changes to IBSPs, interobservable agreements (IOAs) and treatment integrity (TI) and coordinating appointments .

  • Facilitates training and implementation of the IBSP using person-centered and trauma informed approaches for all staff providing supports and provides ongoing education to staff in systems, specific interventions, data collection and appropriate documentation.

  • Employs a range of strategies for skill acquisition and skill generalization over time and across people, settings, situations and activities.

  • Incorporates a variety of empirically validated and behavior analytic techniques and teaching strategies to help persons supported with skill building including, but not limited to: prompting, maximizing learning opportunities, effective reinforcement, preference assessment, choice procedures, modeling, incidental teaching, task analysis, chaining and activity-embedded instructions.

  • Conducts regular IOA/fidelity checks with program leadership to review progress, plans and discuss concerns.

  • Provides RBT supervision to direct care staff and program leadership, including Program Administrators, consistent with Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) supervision guidelines and supports development of necessary skills and education to support certification.

  • Evaluates the skills and knowledge of direct care staff in assigned program, providing regular feedback to Program Administrator regarding pursuit of RBT certifications and conducts Initial Competency Assessments and recertification assessments for DSP/RBTs and Lead RBTs to support completion of RBT certification requirements in accordance with BACB guidelines.

  • Conducts regular documentation checks related to Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) and IBSPs to monitor overall quality and completeness of staff notes for persons supported, including in electronic systems (Digital Agency (DA), Behavior Agent, etc.).

  • Enters daily notes into DA for individuals supported in compliance with billing and regulatory guidelines.  

  • Attends outside conferences and trainings to increase knowledge base and serves as a clinical resource to the assigned program and region, as requested.

  • Completes and maintains BACB requirements for BCaBA/BCBA certification and/or for all other applicable recertifications and training as required for program to ensure compliance with YAI policies and licensing regulations.

  • Participates in on-call weekend support for multiple residential programs within region on a regularly scheduled, rotational basis; may provide coverage for QBMPs at other residential programs on an as needed basis.

  • Participates in referral meetings for potential intakes to make recommendations regarding whether they can be appropriately supported by YAI, which may include conducting off-site assessments of individuals across the California region, as requested.

  • Complies with all Federal, State, Local and other relevant regulatory agency requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Pay Range: 110,000 - 120,000 annually

Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

  • Current, active Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and in good standing with BACB; and

  • Minimum two (2) years prior experience in designing, supervising and implementing behavior modification services; and

  • Must be authorized to provide supervision by BACB or complete 8-hour supervisor training through an ACE provider within 30 days of appointment and maintain in accordance with BACB requirements for duration of assignment; or

  • Satisfactory combination of education, experience and/or training; however, all incumbents must hold professional certification or licensure in accordance with § 59000(a)(36) of California Code Regulations, Title 17 and appropriately qualified to design behavior modification intervention services in the State of California (LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist, etc.).   

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Extensive knowledge of developmental disabilities, working with adult/children with significant behaviors of concern (e.g., self-injuries, aggression to others, property destruction etc.).

  • Knowledge of clinical syndromes.

  • Familiarity with California’s Lanterman Act and Title 17 and 22 regulations and the use of restraint.

  • Hold (or obtain through employer-provided training) and maintain CPR/First Aid, Ukeru and CPI certifications.

  • Exceptional communication and training skills.

  • Cooperative team player with strong supervisory and leadership skills.

  • Strong clinical skills, including the ability to perform comprehensive clinical assessments, communicate clinical rationales, effectively compile, compare and aggregate data/information and interpret information.

  • Highly organized and flexible, with ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency with computers and electronic systems including email, utilizing Workday and/or related systems (DA, BA, etc.) to complete tasks.

  • Ability to provide on-call coverage for assigned program, including receiving calls after regular work hours and to provide 24/7 on-call weekend coverage for multiple residences on a regularly recurring, rotating basis as scheduled by Clinical Director.

  • Ability to travel regularly to assigned residence and to off-site locations across the region to conduct observations or assessments, which may include travel between multiple sites during a regular workday and/or to other programs, if needed to provide coverage or for training.

  • Ability to meet essential physical demands of position including frequent walking, sitting, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching with hands and arms; use hands to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls; assisting with lifting/moving individuals of any weight with assistance of mechanical lifts or other equipment and/or pushing individuals in wheelchairs; lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds or running on occasion; having the physical capacity to work with and implement emergency interventions as per the person’s Individual Behavior Support Plan and Individual Emergency Intervention Plan, if/as needed, including lifting/moving individuals of any weight with or without assistance of equipment and/or other staff.

Preferred Qualification Requirements (desired requirements beyond MQRs above)

  • Prior experience in designing, supervising and implementing behavior modification services in residential services

  • Experience training, coaching, mentoring and/or supervising staff, ideally RBTs
