Position Summary:
Sapphire Technologies is seeking a hands-on Quality &
Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to establish, lead, and
continuously improve the company's quality-management and EHS programs. This
position is responsible for product and process quality, the quality management
system, ISO 9001 certification, supplier quality, workplace health and safety,
environmental compliance, and related regulatory programs.
The role supports the industrialization and production of
complex electromechanical equipment, including rotating machinery and
associated electrical systems. It partners closely with Operations,
Engineering, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and external specialists to ensure
products and processes meet customer, regulatory, quality, environmental,
health, and safety requirements.
This is a functional leadership role with significant
hands-on involvement and will shape the quality and EHS systems of an emerging
energy-technology business as it industrializes new products and expands its
manufacturing capabilities. The successful candidate will build practical
systems for the company’s current scale while developing the processes and
resource plans needed for future growth. The role will manage employees,
contractors, consultants, and service providers as the function develops. We
are a growing company, and you will be responsible for hiring and interviewing
activities as we continue to scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain an effective quality
management system aligned with ISO 9001, customer requirements, applicable
regulations, and company needs.
- Maintain ISO 9001 certification and surveillance
activities, including internal audits, management reviews, quality objectives,
corrective actions, document control, and certification-body coordination.
- Establish inspection, acceptance, non conformance, material-review, corrective-action, change-control, and
calibration practices for incoming, in-process, and finished product.
- Partner with stakeholders across the
organization on design reviews, production readiness, process-risk assessments,
control plans, first-article activities, measurement methods, and process
validation.
- Own supplier and customer quality including,
APQP and PPAP programs, audits, supplier-quality planning, qualification,
phase-gate reviews, submission approval, performance monitoring, corrective
actions, and improvement in collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing
Engineering, Supply Chain, Program Management, and suppliers.
- Develop, monitor, and continuously improve EHS
programs covering environmental protection, occupational health, workplace
safety, and regulatory compliance at local, state and federal levels
- Lead hazard identification and risk assessments,
including job hazard analyses, ergonomics, chemical safety, machine guarding,
electrical safety, lockout/tag out, personal protective equipment, contractor
safety, and safe work practices.
- Establish emergency-preparedness and response
programs, including evacuation, fire and life safety, spill response, first-aid
coordination, and drills.
- Oversee hazardous-material and waste practices,
including chemical inventories, safety data sheets, labeling, storage,
handling, disposal, and required records.
- Develop and deliver quality and EHS training and
maintain required competency and training records.
- Partner with the designated product-compliance
owner on UL, CSA, CE, EMC, and other product-certification activities by
supporting configuration control, records, production conformity, supplier
controls, corrective actions, and certification-related audits.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily on-site and involves work in office, manufacturing, equipment-installation, and test environments. Responsibilities require regular presence in operational areas and participation in audits, investigations, inspections, and improvement activities. Appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to site requirements are required. Some activities may require coordination outside normal operating hours. Travel to suppliers, contract manufacturers, customer locations, or other company sites may be required.
