Job Description - Radiology Educator


Summary

The Radiology Educator serves as the clinical education leader for the Radiology Department and is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of educational programs that support departmental excellence, regulatory compliance, workforce development, and patient safety.

This role partners with leadership to ensure staff competency, onboarding success, continuing education, professional growth, and adherence to organizational policies, accreditation standards, and evidence-based practices.

The Radiology Educator functions as a subject matter expert and change agent, promoting a culture of continuous learning, quality improvement, and professional development across all imaging modalities. This position collaborates with operational leaders, physicians, academic institutions, and interdisciplinary teams to advance clinical excellence and improve patient outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  1. Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates orientation, onboarding, competency validation, continuing education, and professional development programs for Radiology personnel and students.



  2. Collaborates with department leadership, preceptors, educators, and staff to identify educational needs, competency gaps, and opportunities for workforce development.



  3. Develops, reviews, standardizes, and maintains departmental educational materials, competencies, training resources, policies, and clinical practice guidelines.



  4. Monitors, tracks, and maintains educational records and compliance with mandatory education, competency requirements, regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies.



  5. Coordinates and supports accreditation readiness, regulatory surveys, audits, and quality improvement initiatives related to education and clinical practice.



  6. Serves as a clinical educator, mentor, coach, and resource for employees, students, preceptors, and leaders by providing instruction, competency assessment, and professional development.



  7. Coordinates student clinical education programs by serving as the liaison between affiliated educational institutions and the Radiology Department, ensuring compliance with academic and accreditation requirements.



  8. Collaborates with academic faculty and organizational departments to support curriculum alignment, student success, clinical outcomes, and educational partnerships.



  9. Facilitates education and competency related to new technologies, imaging equipment, software applications, workflows, clinical procedures, and evidence-based practice.



  10. Utilizes quality metrics, performance data, and departmental indicators to identify educational opportunities and support continuous performance improvement.



  11. Supports leadership through competency evaluations, employee development, succession planning, performance improvement initiatives, and workforce engagement.



  12. Maintains clinical competency and provides direct patient care as needed to support departmental operations, education, competency validation, and patient care.



  13. Serves as the departmental administrator for assigned learning management and educational systems, including UKG and other organizational education platforms.



  14. Participates in departmental, organizational, and interdisciplinary committees while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.



  15. Performs other duties as assigned in support of departmental operations, patient care excellence, regulatory compliance, and the mission, vision, and values of Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.



Supervisory Responsibilities

Reports To: Radiology Director

Supervises: None

Responsibilities: Planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs that support staff competency, regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and student clinical education within the Radiology Department.

Qualifications

The Radiology Educator must possess advanced clinical knowledge, leadership skills, and educational expertise necessary to support workforce development, competency management, regulatory compliance, and clinical excellence within the Radiology Department.

The individual must demonstrate the ability to effectively educate, mentor, and evaluate staff and students while promoting evidence-based practice, patient safety, quality improvement, and professional growth.

Includes responsibility for enterprise initiatives such as Epic, PACS/RIS, accreditation, and analytics.

Education and Experience

Minimum Required Education: Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology school, Bachelors Degree.

Experience: Applicants must have 5+ years full-time experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist in a hospital setting, 3–5 years of leadership or educator experience required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Applicants must be ARRT registered and obtain a BLS certification within 6 months of employment.
