POSITION OVERVIEW

The Recreation Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and daily operations of Sunset Beach and the Bayview Pool Complex, ensuring an exceptional guest experience, operational excellence, and a safe, engaging environment for guests of all ages. This leader oversees recreation programming, beach and pool experiences, team development, and daily operations while partnering closely with Food & Beverage and other resort departments to deliver a seamless luxury resort experience.

Reporting to the Director of Recreation, this position provides direct leadership to Recreation Supervisors and supports the management and development of Recreation Attendants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide overall leadership, direction, and accountability for recreation operations at Sunset Beach and the Bayview Pool Complex.
  • Directly manage and develop Recreation Supervisors, ensuring consistent execution of programming, service standards, safety protocols, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, coaching, and performance management for recreation team members.
  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability while fostering a culture centered on teamwork, engagement, professionalism, and exceptional guest service.
  • Develop future leaders through coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.

Recreation Programming & Guest Experience

Under the direction of the Director of Recreation, oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of recreation programming, including:

  • Family-friendly beach activities
  • Poolside games and entertainment
  • Kids programming and Camptiva activities
  • Beach games, tournaments, and wellness activities
  • Seasonal programming and holiday events
  • Sunset celebrations and resort activations
  • Special events designed to create memorable guest experiences

Ensure all programming is engaging, safe, inclusive, and reflective of the South Seas brand.

Continuously evaluate guest participation, feedback, and operational trends to enhance programming and create innovative experiences that encourage repeat visitation.

Serve as a highly visible leader throughout the recreation areas, interacting with guests, resolving concerns, and creating memorable moments through exceptional hospitality.

Beach & Pool Operations

  • Oversee the daily operations of Sunset Beach and the Bayview Pool Complex.
  • Ensure all recreation areas are clean, safe, properly equipped, and guest-ready throughout operating hours.
  • Conduct routine inspections of recreation facilities, beach equipment, pools, furniture, cabanas, and activity areas.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Housekeeping, Landscaping, and Security to promptly resolve maintenance, cleanliness, and safety concerns.
  • Ensure proper setup and presentation of recreation spaces while maintaining South Seas brand standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Food & Beverage leadership to coordinate guest experiences across pool, beach, and adjacent dining venues.
  • Collaborate on special events, holiday programming, and resort-wide activations.
  • Work with Guest Services and Marketing to promote recreation offerings and maximize guest participation.
  • Support resort initiatives that enhance the overall guest experience and encourage repeat visitation.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Maintain a safe environment for guests and team members through consistent adherence to safety standards and operating procedures.
  • Ensure recreation associates maintain required certifications, including CPR and First Aid.
  • Train staff on emergency procedures, guest safety, and risk management protocols.
  • Review incidents, ensure proper documentation, and implement corrective actions when appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing departmental labor, operating expenses, and recreation budgets.
  • Monitor labor productivity and scheduling to align staffing with business demand and seasonality.
  • Oversee inventory of recreation equipment, supplies, uniforms, and activity materials.
  • Prepare reports related to programming participation, labor, guest satisfaction, and operational performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while enhancing the guest experience.

What are we looking for?

Support resort-wide initiatives, signature events, holiday programming, and operational priorities while maintaining strong communication across departments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in recreation, hospitality, resort operations, guest activities, or related fields.
  • Previous leadership experience managing teams in a high-volume resort or hospitality environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and motivate diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional guest service standards.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.
