Recreational Therapy Assistant

Job Description

Assists in providing planned activities and interventions for the development, maintenance, and expression of appropriate social and leisure lifestyles of patients admitted to the Unit.

Job Responsibility

• Performs initial assessments and leisure history interviews of patients admitted to the Unit; assesses patients leisure, social and recreational abilities, deficiencies, interests, barriers, life experiences, needs, and potential.


• Assists in the implementation and coordination of individualized/group recreation therapy programs.


• Participates in the planning and provision of individual/group treatment services to improve social, emotional, cognitive and physical functional behaviors.


• Assists in the provision of leisure educational activities.


• Assists the patient in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for independent leisure and social activities; adjustment in community; decision- making ability, and appropriate use of free time.


• Assists in maintaining supplies for the department.


• Prepares and operates equipment for various events and ensures that adequate supplies and equipment are available as needed.


• Participates in maintaining an organized system of record keeping and statistics which comply with all regulatory and facility standards of practice.


• Provides documentation of all events that occur during the regimen.

Job Qualification

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.


• 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
