Job Description - Refrigeration Tech

BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial refrigeration systems and associated equipment.

  2. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on refrigeration equipment, compressors, pumps, motors, valves, condensers, evaporators, and control systems.

  3. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues using schematics, P&IDs, and diagnostic equipment.

  4. Monitor refrigeration system performance and identify abnormal operating conditions.

  5. Perform equipment inspections and document findings, repairs, and maintenance activities in the CMMS system.

  6. Respond to refrigeration alarms, system upsets, and emergency conditions as required.

  7. Maintain compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

  8. Support Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and participate in incident investigations, audits, and safety reviews where applicable.

  9. Perform refrigerant recovery, charging, and leak detection in accordance with regulatory standards.

  10. Coordinate and communicate effectively with Operations and other maintenance disciplines to prioritize and complete work activities.

  11. Assist with equipment startups, shutdowns, outages, and capital projects.

  12. Participate in after-hours callout rotation and emergency response activities as required.

  13. Mentor and assist less experienced technicians when applicable.

  14. Keep and provide timely, accurate records of all refrigeration equipment at the Deer Park and Pasadena Terminals

  15. Other duties as assigned by management.


 


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS



  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. EPA Approved Technician, Type Universal 40 CFR 82 Subpart F.

  3. Minimum of 5 years of industrial refrigeration, HVAC/R experience.

  4. Strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, compressors, pumps, valves, and associated process equipment.

  5. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.

  6. Ability to read and interpret:

    1. P&IDs

    2. Mechanical drawings

    3. Electrical schematics

    4. Equipment manuals



  7. Proficient in the use of diagnostic and testing equipment including multimeters, gauges, and vibration/temperature monitoring tools.

  8. Strong understanding of industrial safety practices including:

    1. Lockout/Tagout

    2. Confined Space

    3. Hot Work

    4. PPE requirements



  9. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  10. Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  11. Valid driver’s license required.
