Located in the state-of-the-art, eco-friendly Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion is the Anesthesia Pre-Procedure Evaluation Center (APEC). APEC is part of the Operating Room/Anesthesia/Surgery Services and offers a convenient location for patients’ pre-procedure needs. Services include phlebotomy, electrocardiograms (EKGs), pre-procedure health screening by nurses with special expertise in surgery and anesthesia and an assessment for high-risk patients by an anesthesiologist.

APEC has an immediate opening for a Registered Nurse who will assume responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care for the APEC patient population.

• Provide and document direct and indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients.
• Provide patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.
• Provide administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement the treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
• Perform skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
• Observe and assess signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics and initiate emergency procedures when indicated.
• Plan and implement care based on observations, implementing appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures while providing care to special patient populations and patients with divers cultural backgrounds.
• Identify patients' readiness for learning and their ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent while identifying and assessing patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations.
• Intervene to provide a safe environment and evaluates efficiency of intervention for patients.

• Assoc. Degree/College Diploma - minimum
• Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (state accredited program) - preferred

• 1 year For external hires, acute care experience in their specialty for new hires. Promotion to Clinical Nurse II is automatic after completion of one (1) year of clinical experience and a satisfactory performance appraisal at a Clinical Nurse I level. - minimum

• RN State License - Upon Hire minimum California State RN License
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - Upon Hire minimum BLS Certification. As required by your specialty unit.
• Other – See Department Specifics - 1 Year minimum Other Competencies, as required by your specialty unit (ex. ACLS, PALS, fetal heart monitoring)
• ANCC Specialty Certification - preferred Any ANCC Specialty Certification strongly recommended after 2 years in specialty
