Career Float Pool RNs may float within one or more of the following specialty clusters:
- Adult ICU/PACU
- Adult Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, and Progressive Care (PCU)
- Women's Services
- NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics
- Emergency Services
Each Career Float Pool RN is assigned a Tier Status based on the number of specialty clusters in which they maintain competency. Tier assignment reflects the breadth of clinical areas the RN is qualified to support.

As a Career Float Registered Nurse, You Will:

QualificationsEducational Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.
License/Certification Requirements:
- California State RN License required
- American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required for RNs floated to Medical, PICU, ICU, PCU, Tele, L&D, MFCU, PreOp PACU/OSU, ED and Cardiac.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for RNs floated to NICU, L&D and Post Partum.
- Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required for RNs floated to PEDs, NICU, ED, PreOp PACU/OSU.
- (Expiration dates for ACLS, NRP and PALS certifications need be 60 days or more from the hire date).
- For RN III: Specialty certification is required (external applicants may obtain within 1 year of hire)
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years recent acute RN experience in specialty. Note: (minimum 2 year recent acute RN experience for RN II)
- Experience in two or more of the Career Float Pool specialty clusters listed above.
