Our world-class Labor and Delivery is where pregnant moms receive excellent maternal-fetal care to monitor, labor and deliver their babies. Our labor and delivery unit delivers over 6,700 babies per year. In our dynamic Perinatal Program, we provide excellent patient and family-centered care to high-risk and low-risk patients.

As a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery:

  • Responsible and accountable for the nursing process and the delivery of patient care.

  • Make clinical judgments and carry out related nursing intervention without supervision.

  • Apply clinical knowledge regarding standard pattern of care to consolidate interventions for time and cost savings.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements in patient assignment making delegation of tasks and documentation.

  • Responsible for care for the patient and delivery team.

  • Provide a dedication to customer service

  • Ability to meet the needs and expectation of patients and health care colleagues

 



Responsibilities
  • Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
  • Provides care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.
  • Provides direct and indirect care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
  • Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
  • Observes signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition.
  • Demonstrates refined assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.
  • Plans and implements individualized patient care based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated.
  • Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Identifies patient’s readiness for learning and ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs.
  • Participates in evidence-based improvement initiatives and/or councils/committees that improve nursing outcomes and the work environment in their unit/department.
  • Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patient.


Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN or higher preferred.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

  • Current California State RN License required

  • ACLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross and NRP Certification

  • For RN III: Specialty Certification (external applicants may obtain within one year of hire)

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years recent acute RN experience in Labor and Delivery required. Note: (minimum 1 year recent acute RN experience in Labor and Delivery will be considered for RN II)
