Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Location: White Plains, New York Schedule: Full-Time | 12-Hour Day or Night Shift Available Shifts:
7:00 AM–7:15 PM
7:00 PM–7:15 AM
Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Alternating weekends and holidays Hours: 77.5 hours per pay period Pay Range: $58.41–$75.81 per hour
Job Overview
A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.
The L&D RN will assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized care plans, monitor maternal and fetal well-being, and collaborate closely with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary clinical teams. This position requires strong assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to respond effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of Labor and Delivery experience, a BSN or MSN, and an active New York State RN license.
Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period
Conduct comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
Recognize changes in maternal or fetal condition and initiate appropriate interventions
Assist physicians and other clinical providers during vaginal and operative deliveries
Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood, and blood products according to established policies
Support patients and families through education, shared decision-making, and informed consent
Promote patient autonomy, dignity, cultural sensitivity, and respectful birthing care
Provide emotional support to patients and their families throughout the birthing process
Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, anesthesia, neonatal staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
Apply the nursing process to address physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, environmental, and discharge-planning needs
Respond to obstetric emergencies and participate in emergency interventions as needed
Follow infection-control standards and national patient-safety guidelines
Delegate appropriate responsibilities to ancillary staff according to the New York State Nurse Practice Act
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Participate in performance-improvement and patient-safety initiatives
Complete required competencies, education, in-services, and staff meetings
Serve as Charge Nurse when assigned
Support professional nursing standards and the organization's nursing practice model
Perform other related nursing duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing
Minimum of five years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience
At least one year of acute-care nursing experience, excluding orientation
Current New York State Registered Nurse license
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification within 180 days of hire
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification within 180 days of hire for experienced RNs
Strong maternal and fetal assessment skills
Sound clinical judgment, prioritization, and decision-making abilities
Knowledge of current nursing, medical, and obstetric care practices
Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with frequent interruptions
Ability to recognize and respond immediately to emergency alarms, changes in condition, and critical situations
Strong communication, collaboration, and patient-education skills
Ability to work either a 12-hour day or night schedule
Availability for alternating weekends and holidays
Preferred
Previous Charge Nurse or leadership experience
Experience in a high-volume or high-acuity Labor and Delivery unit
Current ACLS and NRP certifications upon hire
Experience supporting high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies
Electronic medical record experience
