Job Overview
A healthcare organization in Show Low, Arizona, is seeking experienced Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical / Telemetry for permanent night-shift opportunities.
The RN will care for a mixed Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, and Step-Down patient population in an 18-bed unit that includes six PCU-capable beds. Patients may present with cardiac, neurological, respiratory, renal, infectious, and other acute conditions.
This position requires strong telemetry interpretation skills, experience caring for acute Med-Surg patients, and the ability to safely manage patients requiring cardiac medications and higher-acuity monitoring.
Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, and Step-Down patients
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing reassessments
Develop, implement, and update individualized nursing plans of care
Monitor cardiac rhythms and validate telemetry interpretations provided by monitor technicians
Document telemetry rhythm assessments at least every four hours or more frequently when clinically indicated
Recognize arrhythmias and changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions
Administer medications, IV therapies, and cardiac medications according to physician orders and established protocols
Care for patients receiving medications such as:
Cardizem
Amiodarone
Bumex
Lasix
Integrilin
Octreotide
Protonix
Provide care to patients with diagnoses including:
Acute myocardial infarction
Stroke and TIA
Pneumonia
Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response
Renal disease and dialysis needs
SIRS
Diabetes
Other acute medical conditions
Care for Step-Down patients requiring high-flow oxygen
Support patients using home CPAP when appropriate
Collaborate with hospitalists, respiratory therapists, pharmacy, Charge Nurses, PCTs, HUCs, and other interdisciplinary team members
Start and manage IV access as needed, as there is no dedicated IV team
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and nursing practice standards
Float to other Medical-Surgical units based on hospital staffing and census needs
Qualifications
Required
Current Registered Nurse license or eligibility for Arizona licensure
Minimum of one year of acute-care nursing experience
Recent Medical-Surgical and Telemetry experience
Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation skills
Experience caring for Telemetry patients in an acute-care hospital setting
Ability to recognize and respond to changes in cardiac rhythm and patient condition
Experience administering common cardiac and IV medications
Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and decision-making skills
Ability to work three 12-hour night shifts per week
Availability to work every other weekend
Willingness to float to other Medical-Surgical units when needed
Preferred
Two or more years of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience
Step-Down or Progressive Care experience
Experience caring for patients with cardiac, neurological, respiratory, and renal diagnoses
Experience with Philips telemetry monitoring systems
Experience caring for patients receiving high-flow oxygen
Dialysis patient-care experience

6 PCU-capable beds
Mixed Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, and Step-Down unit
Typical RN ratios:
Medical-Surgical / Telemetry: Approximately 1:4
PCU / Step-Down: Approximately 1:3
Charge Nurse available 24/7 and may take 0–2 patients when needed
Telemetry technicians available for continuous monitoring
PCT, HUC, and CNA support
CNAs may cover up to approximately 9 patients each
Hospitalist available in-house 24/7
Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
Pharmacy available 24/7
No dedicated IV team
Philips telemetry monitoring system
Unit may care for COVID patients when operationally necessary using designated air-handling and separation measures
Schedule
Full-time night shift
Three 12-hour shifts per week
Every other weekend required
Night-shift weekend rotation generally includes Friday and Saturday
Floating may occur to other Medical-Surgical units based on hospital needs
