Registered Nurse - Pediatric Infectious Diseases (BCH-Oakland)

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Nurse supports care coordination and clinic visits for pediatric patients with a variety of bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. This includes challenging conditions like MRSA, osteomyelitis, fevers, bone marrow transplants and organ transplants, HIV, and tuberculosis. S/he works autonomously, utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate patient care. S/he uses a high level of clinical knowledge to fulfill patient needs, ensures efficient patient care, and provides patient education when necessary. The Clinic Nurse acts a patient advocate and as a liaison between insurers, inpatient/outpatient services, patients/families and all other necessary healthcare services to manage and facilitate efficient and timely coordination of care. 

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinic Nurse is responsible for coordinating outpatient services and needs a panel of pediatric patients and providers in the ambulatory setting. His/her responsibilities include both in-clinic procedures, managing the outpatient infectious diseases clinic flow, as well as assisting with insurance authorization and prior medication authorizations, contacting home health companies, assuring DME and other home supplies are adequate, assisting with medication refill requests, patient teaching and assisting in the overall coordination of timely patient care. This position is 100% in-person onsite.  

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance. 

Required Qualifications:

• Two or more years of recent pediatric medical/surgical nursing experience

• Minimum one year of recent experience working in an out-patient/ambulatory setting

• Minimum one year of recent pediatric clinical experience providing nursing care for patients with infectious diseases and immunologic disorders

• Experience with maintenance of central lines (i.e.PICCs) and drawing labs

• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working at an Academic Medical Center
• Experience working with infants and children with or at risk for HIV disease
• Experience with grant data reporting
• Experience working with California Children’s Services Special Care Center patients & families

Licensure/Certifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Higher

• Current California Registered Nursing License

• Current American Heart Association CPR Certification

• PALS Certification

• California Children’s Services Paneled
