Registered Nurse, Per Diem/On-Call (in-person daytime hours only)

Skidmore College is accepting applications for a per diem Registered Nurse (RN) position (in-person daytime hours only: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; no nights, weekends, or holidays) in our Health Services department. 

Summary:

The Registered Nurse plays a valued role in the daily life of Skidmore College, delivering compassionate, high-quality care to students in a warm, collegial clinic setting. This per diem position offers an RN the opportunity to practice full-scope ambulatory nursing—assessing physical and emotional health, providing therapeutic treatment within Health Services’ protocols, and performing patient triage, including phone triage. Shifts are scheduled on an as-needed basis, Monday through Friday during business hours (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.), with no nights, weekends, or holiday coverage required—making it a great fit for an RN seeking flexibility and work-life balance. The RN collaborates with a supportive, multidisciplinary team across Health Services, Health Promotion, Residential Life, Counseling, Athletics, Academics, Campus Safety, and other areas of Student Affairs. 

Primary Job Duties:

1. Takes a health history, conducts an appropriate assessment based on the presenting problems, evaluates findings and documents these clearly and succinctly in an electronic health record


2. Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings


3. Consults with Health Services’ clinicians to perform appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic tests, including rapid point-of-care tests and phlebotomy. 


4. Recognizes and empathizes with the unique psychological needs of the college-aged population and respects their right to privacy


5. Recognizes when referral to a Health Services’ provider or community resource is appropriate, including utilization of appropriate clinical triage skills


6. Offers appropriate treatments and education to students using Health Services’ protocols and practicing within the scope of their professional license


7. Serves as a resource to the greater Skidmore College community regarding health issues, federal and state mandates and current medical practice

Qualifications:

Education: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State

Experience: 2-3 year minimum experience as a RN, college health experience highly desirable, ambulatory or Med/Surg experience valuable
