The Radiation Oncology RN provides specialized nursing care to cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy, serving as a key resource throughout treatment. They assess patients' physical and emotional well-being, educate patients and families about treatment and potential side effects, monitor and manage symptoms such as fatigue, skin irritation, pain, and nausea, administer supportive medications when needed, and coordinate care with radiation oncologists and other members of the healthcare team. Radiation Oncology RNs also offer emotional support, help patients navigate their treatment journey, and play a critical role in ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate cancer care.
