About Duke HomeCare & Hospice

 

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke HomeCare & Hospice, which offers hospice, home health, and infusion services across the region, as well as serves as the home forthe Duke Caregiver Support Program. Team members work closely with a patient's physician to provide comprehensive, individualized care in the comfort of their home or at our inpatient hospice facility in Durham, NC.

As a nurse at Duke’s Inpatient Hospice Unit at Hock Family Pavilion, you will get to live out Duke's mission of caring for our patients, their loved ones, and each other in a very precious way. While working at Hock Family Pavilion, you will have the opportunity to truly care for people at their most vulnerable state of being as well as help them and their loved ones learn to let go in peace and comfort. Hock Family Pavilion offers inpatient hospice care in a home-like environment, which offers state-of-the-art care. It is composed of 12 private patient rooms, each with a private bath and patio.


 


Shifts: Day Shift (7 AM to 7 PM)-Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday / Week 2: Monday, Thursday, Friday


                                            



Duties and Responsibilities of this Level



Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.



Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.



Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.



Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care including equipment and material resources.



Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.



Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.



Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities.


 


Required Qualifications at this Level
Education


Work requires graduation from an accredited Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.



All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the BSN program within seven years of their start date.


Experience
Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.


Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or compact license from participating state. 
BLS required, but may be renewed during orientation if out of date.
