Registered Nurse (RN) Transition to PACU

Inova Fairfax Hospital's Main Tower PACU is currently seeking a Registered Nurse Fellow (experienced RN changing specialty to Perioperative).  Successful candidates will be able to start on October 26, 2026 and attend 5 mandatory weekly classes from 11/12 to 12/15.

Schedule is 3x12 hour shifts supporting 0800-2030, 0900-2130, 1000-2230, 1100-2330, and 1200-0030 (most common shift times). There are 1-2 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule and 3 holidays per year required. After completion of orientation: 1-2 on call shifts required per six-week schedule. 

Our Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow will participate in the upcoming 16-week Perianesthesia Nurse Fellowship in which you will be oriented to all phases of care, Pre-Op, PACU. After completion of orientation, the selected candidate will be required to take call as per unit scheduling requirements. Attending five mandatory seminars from August through September along with minimal time off during the first four months is required. 

This dynamic perianesthesia care unit (PACU) serves a wide variety of surgical patients from the ambulatory to those requiring critical care, including level one trauma patients.  The surgical population includes ENT, general, colorectal, neurosurgery, orthopedic, medical plastics, thoracic, transplants, and urology.  We serve the entire age continuum from the pediatric to the geriatric patients.  

Nurses in this unit care for the perianesthesia patient throughout all phases including Preop, Phase 1, and Phase 2; and can rotate as needed to fit the needs of the unit.  As vital members of the multidisciplinary team, nurses on this unit are specially trained to assist anesthesiologists with placement of regional nerve blocks.

RN PACU Fellow Qualifications:

• Must have 1 year or more of registered nurse clinical experience
• Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date
• BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification issued by the American Heart Association is required
• RN licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Proficient in English, strong verbal and written communication skills

RN PACU Fellow Preferred Qualifications: 

• 2 or more years of Inpatient RN experience to include med/surg telemetry experience
