Job Description - Registered Nurse (RN) Wound, Ostomy and Continence


13-Week Contract | Full-Time Days | Bethesda, Maryland


We are seeking one experienced Wound, Ostomy and Continence Registered Nurse to support the WOC program at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or permanent full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs.


Schedule




  • Monday through Friday




  • 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.




  • 40 hours per week




$80,000 - $90,000 a year

Minimum Qualifications




  • Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth




  • Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution




  • Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN




  • Two to three years of current nursing experience in medical-surgical, oncology, or critical care




  • Current Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing certification




  • Current Basic Life Support certification




  • Demonstrated current competency in wound, ostomy, and continence care




  • Effective English communication skills




  • Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation




  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status




Primary Responsibilities




  • Conduct comprehensive wound, skin, ostomy, and continence assessments




  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care




  • Recommend appropriate wound treatments, dressings, support surfaces, and pressure-injury prevention measures




  • Assess and manage acute, chronic, surgical, and complex wounds




  • Provide preoperative and postoperative ostomy assessment, education, and support




  • Perform stoma-site marking when qualified, authorized, and assigned




  • Evaluate ostomy function, peristomal skin, appliances, and supply needs




  • Support patients experiencing urinary or fecal incontinence




  • Monitor healing progress and promptly communicate changes or concerns to the care team




  • Provide hands-on education to patients, families, nurses, and other healthcare personnel




  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team




  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation




  • Follow NIH clinical protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety requirements, and professional standards




  • Participate in required orientation, training, quality-improvement, and competency activities




Additional Requirements


Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
