A 198-bed Level III trauma center in Farmington is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its Surgical Inpatient Unit. The facility serves the Four Corners region and routinely manages a high volume of complex trauma and surgical admissions, including Level I and Level II trauma cases.
Position Overview
This 24-bed inpatient surgical unit provides care for adult patients (18+) recovering from orthopedic, neurosurgical, abdominal, and medical-nephrology conditions. Nurses on the unit manage a patient ratio of up to 1:6 and support a steady flow of admissions and discharges throughout the shift.
The role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage a broad range of post-operative and medically complex conditions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver direct nursing care to post-operative and medically complex surgical patients
• Perform ongoing assessments and monitor patient status throughout the shift
• Manage care for orthopedic, neurosurgical, abdominal, and medical-nephrology patients
• Provide care for patients with NG tubes, chest tubes, Foley catheters, and post-TURP procedures
• Manage medical complications including sepsis, respiratory issues, diabetic instability, alcohol withdrawal, rib fractures, and altered mental status
• Administer medications and evaluate patient response to treatment
• Document all patient care accurately and thoroughly using Cerner
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, recovery expectations, and discharge needs
• Respond to changes in patient condition and escalate care when appropriate
Qualifications
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• BLS required upon submission; additional certifications may be obtained after hire
• Eligibility to obtain New Mexico or Compact licensure prior to start
• Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and communication skills required
Schedule
• Full-time position
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• 12-hour shifts
