Maine Connections Academy (MCA) is a tuition-free, virtual public charter school for students in grades 7–12 statewide. MCA is authorized by the Maine Charter School Commission and is governed by an independent Board of Directors. MCA is accredited by Cognia. 

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Working from your home in Maine and at monthly in-person sites across Maine, certified teachers will utilize the Pearson Online Classroom to support and motivate students in working through their curriculum, deliver synchronous instruction, provide intervention and enrichment, and use data to diagnose student learning needs. The Math Interventionist is a 1-year, full-time, 10-month, grant-funded position, focused on increasing student achievement and engagement in Math. 

The Math Interventionist will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

• Provide daily research-based, intensive Tier 3 math instruction to individual students and small groups.


• Demonstrate an understanding and enjoyment of working with students of various abilities in mathematics.


• Collaborate with the administration, staff, and fellow mathematics interventionists to develop and implement programs and strategies for the improvement of student achievement in mathematics.


• Engage in action research to discover the efficacy of current mathematics programs.


• Monitor various data regarding mathematics teaching and learning.


• Demonstrate knowledge of reform-based mathematical ideas, and the ability to implement these ideas in an online setting.


• Demonstrate proficiency in leveraging online educational platforms, technology applications, and mathematical resources to deliver tailored instruction, facilitate focused skill reinforcement, and foster learner participation. Analyze system analytics to pinpoint individual student requirements, curate relevant learning tasks, and adapt pedagogical interventions in response to progress monitoring metrics.


• Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other teachers and staff members.


• Demonstrate ability to relate positively to parents, as well as an ability/willingness to teach parents about the importance of mathematics.


• Demonstrate knowledge of math content and math pedagogy.


• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Maine Teacher Certification in Math (Grades 7-12)


• Experience working with multiple grade levels and differentiated instruction


• Participation in research-based professional development opportunities in mathematics education


• Experience implementing research-based mathematical ideas into instructional practice


• Strong technology skills (especially with Google Suite)


• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written


• Student-focused approach


• High degree of flexibility


• Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment


• Team player track record


• Willingness to travel on occasion for social, academic, and state testing events  (may require occasional overnight travel)


• Ability to work remotely, if necessary


• Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families

Salary range: $42,500 - $60,500
