This position is located in Petersburg, Virginia. All applicants must live within 60-90 miles of this location to be considered for this role.

Role Summary


The Mobile Crisis Clinician provides rapid, community-based behavioral health crisis assessment, stabilization support, and care coordination. This role conducts clinical assessments, develops safety plans, links individuals to appropriate levels of care, and coordinates referrals and transitions. Documentation must be accurate, timely, and compliant with payer and regulatory standards. The clinician supports client safety and continuity of care through professional, trauma-informed practice.



Key Outcomes



  • Completes high-quality crisis assessments and stabilization interventions within required timelines.

  • Produces documentation that meets completeness and timeliness expectations for billing and audits.

  • Facilitates appropriate referrals and warm handoffs to next providers/levels of care.

  • Supports reduced repeat crisis utilization through effective safety planning and linkage.

  • Maintains compliance with privacy, consent, and minimum necessary standards.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Respond to crisis referrals and conduct behavioral health assessments in the community.

  • Develop and review safety plans and crisis stabilization strategies with individuals/supports.

  • Coordinate referrals and transitions, including required discharge/transfer documentation when applicable.

  • Collaborate with hospitals, CSBs, families, and community providers for continuity of care.

  • Use de-escalation techniques and maintain professional boundaries during crisis encounters.

  • Document services accurately and timely in the designated record system.

  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and required training.

  • Follow privacy and security standards for handling client information in the field.

  • Escalate safety concerns per protocol, including medical emergencies and imminent risk.

  • Support quality improvement initiatives and documentation audits as requested.



Required Qualifications



  • QMHP eligibility in Virginia (or required credentialing level for the role) (TBD).

  • Experience in crisis response, community behavioral health, or acute clinical settings.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally.

  • Current MCR Certification and or proof of completion of training within 30 days.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior mobile crisis experience and knowledge of community resources.

  • Training in trauma-informed care and de-escalation (preferred).



Skills and Competencies



  • Crisis assessment; safety planning; referral coordination; clinical documentation.

  • Calm under pressure; communication; cultural humility; teamwork; judgment.

TBD (EHR, phone-based dispatch/referral system, secure communication tools)




Working Conditions and Physical Requirements



  • Community-based work with variable environments and schedules.

  • Requires travel and sustained attention during crisis events.



Performance Metrics



  • Response time to referrals (average).

  • Documentation timeliness (same day/within policy).

  • Referral completion rate (documented warm handoffs).

  • Quality review score (audit checklist).



Compensation Range


$30.00 - $50.00 per hour (based on experience).
