Preconstruction Technology Program Director  

Location: Remote with ~40% travel (East Half of US)
Reports To: VP, Healthcare Technology 

 


Position Summary


The Preconstruction Technology Program Director leads preconstruction deliverables for healthcare technology programs. This role partners closely with the VP, Healthcare Technology to guide technology visioning, requirements definition, and design coordination. Engagement is highest during preconstruction and early design, then transitions to advisory support as on-site delivery teams execute.


Key Responsibilities


Preconstruction Program Leadership



  • Lead preconstruction workstreams across 2–3 healthcare technology programs at a time, with structured handoff to delivery teams for execution support.

  • Develop and manage preconstruction workplans, milestones, and deliverable schedules, including visioning outputs, design inputs, and budget assumptions.

  • Maintain decision logs and action plans to drive timely stakeholder alignment.

  • Support risk identification and mitigation planning; escalate critical issues to program leadership.

  • Manage KPI tracking and status reporting for assigned programs, including progress against deliverables, stakeholder alignment, risk posture, and readiness for handoff.


Client Engagement & Stakeholder Facilitation



  • Serve as a key client-facing leader for technology planning, partnering with program leadership as the primary owner of executive governance and commercial oversight.

  • Facilitate structured workshops with clinical, operational, IT, engineering, and construction stakeholders to align future-state workflows and technology priorities.

  • Communicate clearly with senior leaders, translating complex clinical and technical topics into actionable decisions and next steps.

  • Build trusted working relationships with health system leaders and project teams to support long-term account success and repeatable delivery.


Technology Visioning & Requirements



  • Assess current-state clinical and operational workflows and translate them into future-state technology concepts and requirements.

  • Support technology visioning processes, deep-dive workshops, and reports.

  • Produce clear documentation such as visioning reports, workflow maps, functional requirements, user needs, integration considerations, and design assumptions.


Design Collaboration



  • Partner with architects, engineers, and construction stakeholders to ensure clinical technology needs are understood and incorporated into design decisions.

  • Guide technology planning for smart patient spaces, clinical and operational technology, AI initiatives, and project pilots.

  • Guide input and manage timelines for mock-ups, simulation labs, and end-user reviews.

  • Coordinate internal SMEs across IT, AV/OT, security, infrastructure, data/AI, and other disciplines to meet preconstruction project deliverables.

  • Work with SMEs to develop budget and schedule inputs.


Qualifications



  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare technology, clinical informatics, clinical operations, or program leadership roles with significant client-facing responsibility.

  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple deliverables and priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead preconstruction engagements, facilitate workshops, and produce high-quality client deliverables.

  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows and how technology impacts care delivery, patient safety, and staff efficiency.

  • Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional stakeholders across clinical, IT, engineering, and construction teams and drive alignment through documentation and follow-through.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to and influence senior clinical and administrative leaders.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Willingness to travel ~40% as needed.


Preferred



  • Healthcare clinical workflow experience.

  • Familiarity with healthcare design and construction processes, including preconstruction, design phases, mock-ups, and activation planning.
