Ideal for experienced nurses who thrive in autonomous practice, the role combines symptom-based telephone triage and prescription refill management. Using clinical expertise and evidence-based protocols, nurses remotely assess patient needs, determine the appropriate level of care, provide patient education, and serve as a key liaison between patients and providers. During after-hours operations, nurses focus on urgent patient concerns when ambulatory clinics are closed, managing a diverse population of patients.
