Job Description - Safety Specialist- Transmissions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Oversee and support safety programs for transmission line construction projects in Alabama, Louisiana and Georgia.

  • Conduct routine jobsite safety observations, audits, inspections, and risk assessments.

  • Identify hazards associated with transmission construction activities including structure erection, foundations, wire pulling, rigging, heavy equipment operations, and right-of-way work.

  • Develop, conduct, and document safety training related to transmission construction activities and safe work practices.

  • Conduct incident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations and determine root causes.

  • Develop and manage corrective and preventive action plans resulting from audits, inspections, and investigations.

  • Prepare and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and Project Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).

  • Monitor and evaluate subcontractor safety performance to ensure compliance with project requirements.

  • Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives.

  • Assist project teams with planning and risk mitigation for transmission construction activities.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, client safety requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, observations, incidents, training, and corrective actions.

  • Promote continuous improvement by coaching, mentoring, and reinforcing safe work behaviors.

  • Support emergency response activities and storm restoration efforts as needed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of construction safety experience.

  • Experience supporting transmission, utility, power delivery, heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure construction projects.

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, incident investigation, hazard recognition, and risk management principles.

  • Experience conducting field safety audits, inspections, and safety training.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

  • Ability to travel extensively throughout Alabama, Louisiana and Georgia.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience supporting transmission line construction projects.

  • OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 501 Authorized Trainer Certification.

  • CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor Certification.

  • Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP).

  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certification.

  • Knowledge of transmission line construction methods, utility safety practices, and electrical hazard controls.

  • Experience managing subcontractor safety programs.

  • Experience supporting storm restoration operations.

  • Strong understanding of transmission construction safety practices.

  • Knowledge of energized work hazards, grounding, rigging, lifting operations, and equipment safety.

  • Ability to identify hazards and implement effective risk mitigation measures.

  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and leadership abilities.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

  • Effective conflict resolution and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple active projects and priorities.

  • Commitment to fostering a culture of safety and accountability.


Working Conditions



  • Remote work with extensive travel throughout Alabama, Louisiana and Georgia.

  • Work is primarily performed in active transmission line construction environments.

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, remote work locations, and construction hazards.

  • Ability to walk long distances on rights-of-way and construction sites.

  • Ability to climb structures, navigate rugged terrain, and access remote project locations as required.

  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours during critical project activities or storm response efforts.

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
