Assist the Lead Rescue Instructor with the delivery of Confined Space Rescue courses for Code Red Safety employees and external clients.
Support classroom instruction and hands-on practical rescue evolutions under the direction of the Lead Instructor.
Demonstrate proper confined space rescue techniques, equipment use, patient packaging, retrieval systems, mechanical advantage systems, rope systems, and other applicable rescue skills.
Work directly with students during practical exercises to reinforce proper techniques and provide coaching and corrective instruction.
Assist with Code Red Safety new-hire rescue orientations, refresher training, and competency evaluations.
Assist with additional safety and rescue-related training programs, including:
Confined Space Awareness
Fresh Air / Bottle Watch training
Respiratory protection and related safety training
Respirator fit testing
Other rescue and safety courses as assigned
Assist with the setup, inspection, organization, and breakdown of rescue and training equipment before and after each course.
Verify training equipment is maintained in safe, serviceable condition and immediately report damaged or deficient equipment.
Assist with preparing training areas, confined-space props, rope systems, retrieval systems, breathing-air equipment, and other practical training stations.
Help maintain student attendance records, practical evaluations, training documentation, and other required course records.
Maintain a professional and safety-focused learning environment while representing Code Red Safety at client facilities nationwide.
Follow Code Red Safety procedures as well as applicable OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, client, and site-specific requirements.
Perform other training and Rescue Operations duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Previous hands-on experience in Confined Space Rescue and technical rescue operations.
Strong working knowledge of confined-space hazards, rescue equipment, rope systems, retrieval systems, and rescue procedures.
Ability to safely demonstrate and explain rescue techniques to individuals with varying levels of experience.
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively under the direction of a Lead Instructor and as part of a coordinated instructional team.
Ability to perform physically demanding rescue evolutions, including climbing, lifting, carrying equipment, working at heights, maneuvering in confined spaces, and working while wearing required PPE.
Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States for training assignments.
Ability to work a flexible, part-time/as-needed schedule. Assignments may include multiple consecutive days and varying schedules depending on course and client requirements.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable company travel and client-site requirements.
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
Confined Space Rescue training/certification or documented equivalent rescue training.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are highly desirable:
Previous experience as a rescue instructor, assistant instructor, rescue team lead, or trainer.
Confined Space Rescue – Operations and/or Technician level.
High Angle Rope Rescue – Operations and/or Technician level.
Firefighter I, II, or equivalent fire service training.
EMR, EMT, Paramedic, or other emergency medical certification.
HAZMAT First Responder Awareness, Operations, and/or Technician-level training.
OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30.
TWIC.
Experience working in refineries, petrochemical facilities, construction sites, power generation facilities, manufacturing facilities, or other industrial environments.
Experience conducting respirator fit testing.
Experience with supplied-air respiratory systems, SCBA, breathing-air equipment, and respiratory protection programs.
Experience providing safety training to adult learners in classroom and hands-on environments.
Travel & Work Environment
This position is administratively based out of Signal Hill, California; however, the position supports a remote, nationwide training operation and requires frequent travel throughout the United States.
Training may be conducted at Code Red Safety facilities, client facilities, industrial sites, construction sites, or temporary training locations. Employees must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions, at heights, in confined spaces, and in active industrial environments.
Travel assignments may require overnight stays and multiple consecutive days away from home.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be capable of participating in and demonstrating technical rescue activities, including:
Climbing ladders and accessing elevated or restricted areas.
Entering and maneuvering within confined spaces.
Lifting, carrying, positioning, and operating rescue equipment.
Handling ropes, tripods, retrieval devices, patient packaging equipment, SCBA/SAR systems, and related rescue equipment.
Standing, kneeling, crawling, bending, climbing, and performing physical rescue activities for extended periods.
Wearing required PPE and respiratory protection when applicable.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal Rescue Instructor Assistant is an experienced rescue professional who enjoys teaching others and wants to help develop the next generation of Code Red rescue personnel. This individual does not need to be the primary instructor for every course but should have the technical knowledge, professionalism, and communication skills necessary to confidently demonstrate rescue techniques, coach students through hands-on evolutions, and support the Lead Instructor in delivering a consistent, high-quality training program.
