THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION FUNDED UNTIL 2031 

The Research Associate supports the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology’s research mission by independently and collaboratively conducting laboratory-based research in support of funded projects. This position designs and performs experiments, analyzes and interprets data, maintains accurate research records, prepares figures and written summaries for manuscripts and grant-related deliverables, and helps ensure continuity of ongoing studies. The position also provides technical guidance and training to students and junior laboratory personnel while working under the general direction of the Principal Investigator.

1. Designs, conducts, and troubleshoots laboratory experiments related to ongoing research projects using appropriate electrophysiology, neurobiology, molecular, cellular, histologic, imaging, and/or biochemical techniques as applicable to the lab.
2. Collects, analyzes, interprets, and documents experimental data.
3. Maintains accurate laboratory notebooks, databases, and research records.
4. Coordinates day-to-day progress of assigned research projects. 
5. Assists with protocol implementation, quality control, sample tracking, reagent and supply management, and maintenance of laboratory procedures to support efficient project completion.
6. Prepares figures, summaries, and reports to support publications, presentations, and sponsor deliverables.
7. Contributes to manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, literature reviews, and grant progress-related materials.
8. Trains and provides technical guidance to students, trainees, and junior laboratory personnel in laboratory procedures, data collection methods, documentation expectations, and safe research practices.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:  Ph.D. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) 

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience as a Post-Doc. Demonstrated experience in biomedical or laboratory-based research, including independent execution of experiments, data collection, data analysis, and scientific documentation. Must complete and maintain all required institutional training related to research compliance, laboratory safety, and applicable regulatory requirements.   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of laboratory research methods, experimental design, data collection procedures, scientific documentation standards, and applicable research compliance and laboratory safety requirements.
• Knowledge of electrophysiology, neurobiology, cell/molecular biology, histology, microscopy, and/or other biomedical research techniques relevant to the assigned projects.
• Skill in conducting experiments, troubleshooting laboratory procedures, organizing and maintaining research records, analyzing data, and preparing scientific figures and summaries.
• Skill in written and verbal communication, scientific documentation, time management, and coordination of multiple research activities with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, prioritize competing responsibilities, follow established protocols, maintain data integrity, and adapt to changing project needs.
• Ability to train and provide work direction to students or junior personnel, collaborate effectively with faculty and staff, and maintain a professional and safety-conscious laboratory environment.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may be required to work weekends and evenings.
