Job Summary

Working under the direction of the Research Manager, Division Chief, and faculty of the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics, the Junior Research Specialist is responsible for the daily organization, coordination, and conduct of activities related to studies of the safe and effective use of medications in a variety of contexts. The majority of research in the division is neither clinical nor bench science, and is conducted in an office setting with minimal to no patient interaction. Working as part of a tight-knit group of hardworking friendly people – an internationally acclaimed research unit of 22 Harvard faculty, 65 support staff, and 9 programmers.

Essential Functions
• Support investigators on developing and refining research queries for use in a virtual data research environment
• Manage files submitted to and returned from the virtual environment, including logging and documenting
• Serve as a liaison between investigator and programmers by checking quality and completeness of files
• Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis, and reporting for research studies.
• Assists with preparing progress reports with statistics.
• Gathers information to aid in the development of future research proposals.
• Trains and orients new staff.
• On a limited basis: Outreach communication with subjects, conducting mailings, follow-up on mailings, and obtaining necessary documents.

Master's Degree Related Field of Study required

Experience
Experience in an academic or laboratory research setting 3-5 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be a problem solver willing to take the initiative and prioritize tasks, thereby ensuring the smooth and efficient conduct of several projects simultaneously.
- A high degree of computer literacy in order to use various spreadsheet, database, accounting and word processing programs to assist in administrative, grant proposal preparation, and research reporting activities.
- Excellent organizational skills in order to formulate, implement, and monitor a number of interrelated tasks.
- Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in handling of sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to work under deadline pressure and prioritize work from several sources.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for internal and external communications.
