Job Description:

Position Salary Range: $20.67 per hour

Arizona State University is seeking a detail-oriented, student-focused professional to join University Registrar Services as a Residency Classification Specialist. You'll ensure accurate tuition residency determinations by applying Arizona Board of Regents policies while guiding students through the residency process.

In this high-volume, deadline-driven role, you'll serve as both a policy expert and student advocate—reviewing applications, explaining complex requirements clearly, and helping the university remain compliant while putting students first. Cross-training opportunities in various functions allow for skill development and broader exposure within University Registrar Services.

Essential Duties:

  • Apply ABOR, state, and university residency policies accurately and consistently.
  • Review and process residency petitions, reclassifications, appeals, and supporting documentation.
  • Research and verify residency status using PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and other systems.
  • Educate students, families, and staff on residency requirements, timelines, and documentation.
  • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, Zoom, and in-person with professionalism and clarity.
  • Serve as a resource for resolving discrepancies and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with FERPA and retention policies.
  • Identify and support process improvements and service enhancements.
  • Assist with special projects and training new staff.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education student support services.
  • Customer service experience in team-based, high-volume environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience handling confidential information.
  • Knowledge of higher education policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and Slack.

Working Environment:

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
