Position Overview and Responsibilities:


Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory.  Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.


 


Supervises the park staff and participates in the management of the area’s resources, facilities, and public use under existing rules and operating policies to provide the proper levels of administration, resource management, visitor services, protection, and maintenance.


 


ADMINISTRATION


Implements and enforces all laws, rules, operating policies, leases, agreements, and permits pertaining to this area. Reviews and implements administrative policies, procedures, guidelines and related directives; evaluate impact on operations; identifies potential problems; recommends and oversees implementation of appropriate corrective action. Provides for employee selection, training, supervision, and disciplinary measures when necessary. Maintains good employee relations. Prepares budget requests, provides for effective expenditure of appropriations, supervises the collection and handling of fees and other revenue. Is responsible for all facility and equipment inventories and implements established policies for fiscal control and accountability. Ensures preparation and implementation of work schedules and assignments for the staff. Manages service and concession contracts. Assists in development and management of grants, special use permits and other operating agreements or leases. Sets realistic park goals and schedules and coordinates effectively to achieve.


 


RESOURCE MANAGEMENT


Oversees the activities relating to land management, recreation and resource management; implements and guides the resource management plan for the area including imperial species management, water manipulation, native species propagation, erosion control, exotic plant and animal control. Operate various vehicles and equipment to assess resource management needs. Documents biological community changes and makes recommendations for management measures.


 


VISITOR SERVICES


Implements and supervises the area’s interpretive programs; meets the public, interprets the area’s resources, facilities and services; resolves visitor complaints; responds to public inquiries and provides good public relations; works cooperatively with a variety of government agencies, non-governmental organizations, media groups, external stakeholders, volunteers and other community service groups in an effort to get community and organizational support in achieving park goals and objectives.


 


MAINTENANCE


Oversees planning, implementation, and control of the area’s maintenance program.  Identifies maintenance needs and provide supervision and management to staff for maintenance of the facilities and support equipment for efficient area operation. Plans and directs the performance of routine, preventive and corrective maintenance necessary to meet or exceed FPS standards. Assist in the inspection of plans for recreational development, construction and renovations to ensure compliance with code specifications, permits and quality workmanship.


 


PROTECTION


Ensures Park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural and cultural resources and facilities, while providing access and safe enjoyment for the visitor.


 


Performs work related duties as required.

Position of Special Trust Requirement:


This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.


 


 


Pay:


$4,513.89 monthly/$54,166.65 annually

Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill a Resident Park Manager III position.  This Resident Park Manager III position requires an individual with strong leadership ability and resource management experience.  The career staff of 17 consists of Park Manager, Assistant Park Manager, 12 Park Rangers, one Administrative Assistant, one Maintenance Mechanic, and one Park Services Specialist.  Supervises the park staff and participates in the management of the area’s resources, facilities and public use under existing rules and operating policies to provide the proper levels of administration, resource management, visitor services, protection and maintenance.  The applicant must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.  The applicant must possess good visitor service and administrative skills and be able to work independently.


This beachside park just south of Port Everglades is the last example of an undeveloped coastal ecosystem in Broward County.


The park is named for Civil Rights Movement leaders who led “wade-in” protests to desegregate South Florida beaches in the 1950s and 1960s. It was once the county’s designated “colored beach” and bore the name of the Broward County attorney who was instrumental in transferring ownership of the land to the state, in lieu of being developed for residential high-rises.


Now, the park is a popular location for swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, bicycling and picnicking, offering a haven where everyone can escape the hectic pace of the metropolis and reconnect with nature.
