Residential Service Plumber

Job Description - Residential Service Plumber

RESIDENTIAL SERVICE PLUMBER
Independence, Missouri

If you're an experienced service plumber who's tired of quotas, pushy sales tactics, and surprise weekend calls, this one's worth a look. Our client is a long-established residential plumbing company in the Kansas City area that's actively growing. They offer a take-home truck, a Monday–Friday schedule with no required on-call, and real room to move into a supervisory role for the right person.

THE BASICS
Location: Independence, Missouri
Pay: Your choice of two options:

  • Hourly + commission: $30/hr (Level 1) or $35/hr (Level 2), plus 5% commission on total revenue
  • Straight hourly: about $40/hr (negotiable), with no commission

Both options include sales incentives, and overtime is paid at time and a half. Pay runs from arrival at your first job to departure from your last job, including drive time between calls.
Service Area: Most work within 10 miles, occasional calls up to 25 miles
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–6:00 PM. Alternate 5-day schedules such as Tuesday–Saturday are available on request.
On-Call: None required. Extra hours are available if you want them.
Reports To: [Owner]

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Run residential plumbing service calls, typically around 3–5 a day depending on the job. That includes quick repairs, maintenance, and full-day or multi-day installs.
  • Diagnose problems accurately, then explain the issue and the options clearly to homeowners.
  • Repair and replace water heaters, including tank-to-tankless conversions.
  • Handle faucets, fixtures, disposals, drain cleaning, and general residential repairs.
  • Install water treatment systems.
  • Work on water service and sewer line repairs and replacements, including jobs that need excavation.
  • Handle some remodel work and occasional light commercial calls, which make up about 10% of the work.
  • Do a full, honest assessment on every call. That means checking water pressure on every water heater install and telling the customer what's needed versus what's recommended.
  • Document your work and recommendations in the company's field service app.

WHY SERVICE PLUMBERS LIKE WORKING HERE

  • You pick the pay structure that works for you: hourly plus 5% commission on total revenue, or straight hourly.
  • Every tech is eligible for incentives on sewer repairs and replacements, tank-to-tankless conversions, and water treatment systems, including techs on straight hourly.
  • Drive time between calls is paid.
  • There are no sales quotas, minimums, or high-pressure tactics. You recommend what the customer actually needs.
  • On-call and weekend work are not required, and you'll never be scheduled more than 5 days a week.
  • The schedule is flexible. You can swap a weekday off for a Saturday when you need to.
  • Overtime is paid at time and a half.
  • You get a take-home company truck.
  • Fuel and expense cards are provided.
  • Uniforms are supplied for every season: polos, short- and long-sleeve shirts, hoodies, and winter jackets.
  • The company provides the big equipment, including drain machines, sewer cameras, jackhammers, and concrete saws.
  • A company tablet is available, or you can use your own phone like most of the team does.
  • Medical insurance is offered after 3 months.
  • The company has been around for decades and is actively growing, so there's a real path into supervisory or management roles for the right person.
  • The 4-week training period is flexible. Experienced techs have been running calls on their own within 1–2 weeks.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required:

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience running residential plumbing service calls as the lead tech. Helper, apprentice, apartment maintenance, or municipal water department experience alone won't be a fit.
  • Ability to diagnose issues independently and make repairs properly without close supervision.
  • Strong in-home customer service: professional, clear, and comfortable explaining problems and options.
  • Your own hand tools and power tools. These are not provided.
  • Clean and valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to complete a background check and drug test.

Nice to Have (not required):

  • Journeyman or master plumber license
  • Light commercial plumbing experience
  • Tankless water heater installation and conversion experience
  • Water treatment system experience
  • Sewer line repair and replacement, including excavation
  • Experience using field service management software
