Job Description - Respiratory Therapist


A full-time Respiratory Therapist opportunity is available at a 523-bed, full-service acute care hospital in Gainesville, Florida. This Joint Commission-accredited facility is recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology, and a Blue Distinction Center for Spine and Bariatric Surgery. This role offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity environment supporting a wide range of critical care patients.


The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive respiratory care services including the setup, delivery, and maintenance of both routine and advanced therapies. This includes oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, and mechanical ventilation in accordance with physician orders and established clinical standards. The role also involves performing and interpreting arterial blood gases, assessing patient response to therapy, and adjusting care plans based on clinical findings. Strong communication with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members is essential, along with patient education and assessment responsibilities. The therapist must also recognize and appropriately report any suspected signs of abuse or neglect.


Responsibilities:




  • Deliver and manage respiratory therapies including oxygen, aerosol, and ventilator support.




  • Set up and maintain respiratory care equipment in acute and critical care settings.




  • Perform and interpret arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis.




  • Monitor patient response to respiratory treatments and adjust care accordingly.




  • Collaborate with physicians and care teams to ensure optimal respiratory care.




  • Educate and assess patients and families regarding respiratory treatments and equipment.




  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to care protocols.




  • Identify and report signs of abuse or neglect in accordance with hospital policy.




Qualifications:




  • Minimum of one year of Respiratory Therapist experience required in ICU, CVICU, NICU, PICU, or other critical care settings.




  • Home care or long-term care experience may also be considered; CRT candidates may be considered.




  • Current Florida State Respiratory Care Practitioner license required.




  • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential required.




  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.




  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.




  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 30 days of hire.




  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 30 days of hire.




  • Strong critical care judgment, technical skill, and communication ability.




Schedule:
