Job Description - Retirement Plan Advisor

Retirement Plan Advisor

Cornerstone Private Asset Trust Company, LLC – Bloomington, MN

Who We Are:

Cornerstone Private Asset Trust Company is a boutique firm built on relationships, flexibility, and a shared commitment to doing what’s best for our clients. We operate as a highly collaborative team where everyone contributes, supports one another, and steps in where needed—regardless of title.

As part of the BGM Group, we partner across tax, wealth management, and advisory services to deliver a fully integrated client experience. Internally, that same collaboration defines how we work—without silos or rigid role boundaries.

Retirement plans are a key and growing part of our business. We partner with business owners to design, implement, and manage plans that align with their goals while ensuring fiduciary oversight and long-term success.

Primary Purpose:

We are seeking an experienced, client-focused Retirement Plan Advisor to join our team and take ownership of our retirement plan offering. This role will operate as a team of one initially, requiring someone who can independently manage client relationships, oversee plan execution, and contribute to growing the service line.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys both high-level advisory work and hands-on execution, and who is motivated to help build a department over time. As the business grows, this role will have the opportunity to shape processes, expand services, and hire additional team members.

What This Role Looks Like:

This role owns the full lifecycle of retirement plan services—from client advisory and plan design to coordination, execution, and ongoing relationship management.

In a small team environment, success requires a willingness to roll up your sleeves and step in wherever needed to support clients and the broader team.

Responsibilities Include but are not Limited to:

Client Leadership & Advisory

  • Serve as the primary advisor for retirement plan clients, including business owners, HR teams, and employees

  • Consult on plan design, strategy, and fiduciary responsibilities

  • Lead onboarding, enrollment meetings, and ongoing client reviews

  • Deliver employee education and retirement readiness support

  • Act as the main point of contact for client questions and complex issues

Operations & Execution

  • Coordinate with TPAs, recordkeepers, and other service providers

  • Support plan administration activities such as contributions, distributions, and documentation

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with plan requirements

  • Review and interpret plan documents and assist with issue resolution

  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges with urgency and attention to detail

Business Development & Growth

  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships

  • Participate in networking and business development efforts

  • Partner with internal BGM teams to generate referrals and cross-sell opportunities

  • Contribute to building a scalable and growing retirement plan practice

Team Contribution (Key to Success)

  • Step in to support teammates and firm priorities—even outside of core responsibilities

  • Assist with process improvements, projects, or administrative needs as they arise

  • Collaborate across departments to deliver a seamless client experience

  • Help build and refine workflows in an evolving, growing environment

Growth & Leadership Opportunity:

  • Play a key role in building and shaping the retirement plan department

  • Develop processes, best practices, and service offerings

  • Grow a book of business and expand client relationships

  • Hire, train, and lead a junior team member as the function grows

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5–10+ years of experience in retirement plans, ERISA, or related financial services

  • Strong knowledge of qualified plans and fiduciary responsibilities

  • Experience working with TPAs, recordkeepers, and investment platforms

  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships independently

  • Business development experience or interest in growing a client base

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • Proactive, self-starter mindset with high accountability

  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, less structured environment

  • AIF, QPFC, or similar certifications (or willingness to obtain)

Who Should Apply:

  • You are comfortable operating independently and taking ownership of your work

  • You enjoy building processes and improving how things are done

  • You are willing to step in wherever needed to support the team and clients

  • You like variety in your work and are comfortable wearing multiple hats

  • You are motivated to grow into a leadership role over time

  • You value collaboration and being part of a close-knit team

Who Might Not Be a Fit:

  • You prefer highly defined roles with strictly limited responsibilities

  • You are not interested in client-facing work or business development

  • You are uncomfortable working as a team of one initially

  • You prefer large, highly structured organizations with clear role boundaries

What You'll Love About Us:

Make an Impact. This is an opportunity to build and shape a growing service line.

Collaborative Culture. Work in a team-first environment where everyone contributes.

Growth-Oriented. Your leadership path is tied to the growth you help create.

Comprehensive Benefits. Health, dental, vision, life, disability, PTO, paid holidays, and 401(k).
