POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Revenue Cycle Associate supports multiple functions throughout the healthcare revenue cycle to promote accurate patient registration, timely reimbursement, appropriate account resolution, and efficient health information management. This position serves as a flexible resource across Patient Access, the Business Office, and Health Information Management (HIM), providing coverage based on departmental and operational needs.

The Revenue Cycle Associate assists patients with billing questions, account balances, payment options, financial assistance, and other financial counseling needs. The position also supports front-end revenue cycle activities including patient registration and check-in, insurance verification, authorization review and monitoring, demographic and insurance updates, collection of applicable patient financial responsibility, and scheduling-related functions.

EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

• 1 year of healthcare experience, required


• 2 years of healthcare revenue cycle, patient access, medical billing, financial counseling, scheduling, insurance verification, authorization or HIM/medical records experience, preferred. 


• Experience verifying insurance eligibility and benefits and working with payer authorization requirements, preferred. 


• Experience assisting patients with billing questions, estimates, payment arrangements, or Financial Assistance programs, preferred.


• Experience with electronic health records, practice-management systems, or hospital revenue-cycle systems, preferred. 


• Previous experience working across multiple healthcare departments or functions, preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of basic healthcare revenue cycle processes, including patient registration, insurance verification, billing, collections, and medical records.


• Ability to learn and apply payer requirements, organizational policies, and revenue cycle procedures.


• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, families, providers, payers, and coworkers.


• Ability to explain patient balances, payment options, and financial assistance processes in a clear and understandable manner.


• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy when entering patient, insurance, and financial information.


•  Ability to review information, identify discrepancies, and appropriately resolve or escalate issues.


•  Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.


•  Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.


•  Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively across Patient Access, Business Office, and Health Information Management (HIM).


•  Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn electronic health record, patient accounting, scheduling, and document-management systems.


•  Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.


• Effective verbal and written communication skills.


• Basic mathematical skills necessary for reviewing patient balances, payments, and financial information.
