RN, Cardiac Rehab

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
·         (BSN) – A Bachelor of Science in Nursing
(RN) - Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
·         CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam (successfully pass)
Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
    o    1 year of experience as an RN in cardiac intensive care 
    o    1 year of other intensive care RN experience and experience involving cardiac risk factor intervention and exercise             prescription 
    o    6 months' experience as an RN in cardiac intensive care and 6 months' experience as an RN in Cardiac Rehab.
Demonstrates ability to perform necessary skills and competencies required for position.
(Preferred) Previous experience in adult fitness or cardiac rehabilitation

1. Oversees the Cardiac Rehab. Program for all program participants.


2. Contributes expertise as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to offer comprehensive treament stategies to provide positive outcomes for individual participants.


3. Performs initial intake interview and completes Cardiac Rehabilitation Program Nurse Assessment for all participants, and develops a personalized treatment plan for each individual with team of staff members.


4. Evaluates a person’s overall health, with special attention to cardiovascular function and metabolism.


5. Obtains physician consent for all participants.


6. Meets with medical director weekly to review the plan of care for all participants.


7. Records blood pressures, observes patient's condition, observes monitor for indications of positive tests or other complications.


8. Performs pulse oximetry recognizing variation in methods and testing parameters required for various age groups.


9. Monitors and records heart activity, using telemetry, while participant undergoes exercise on rehab. equipment, under physician's supervision.


10. Assesses body composition using scale, tape measure, skinfold calipers or other techniques.


11. Explains program and test procedures to participants.


12. Supervises exercise session, monitoring participants for inappropriate responses to exercise.


13. Adjusts individual exercise prescription according to participant’s daily response in rehab., and physician recommendations.


14. Documents initial and daily assessment data in participant records.


15. Advises patients about nutrition, risk reduction, and ongoing exercise regimens.


16. Teaches patient education and behavior modification classes.


17. Immediately reports any new, changing, and/or significant participant conditions to the physician supervising the program.


18. Initiates ACLS measures and/or emergency care according to department policy.


19. Attends and participates in staff meetings, educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and other activities as related to job performance and job knowledge to remain current in the field of cardiac rehabilitation.


20. Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.
