Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care to patients with various diagnoses, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, general post-operative care, pain management, fractures, dementia, and more.
• Maintain appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios, typically 1:6 or less on both days and nights; 1:8 rarely on nights depending on acuity and staffing.
• Monitor and assess patients, performing vital signs checks, ambulation assistance, and daily living activities.
• Titrate drips as needed for a short period, primarily using Cardizem; refresh knowledge of policies and procedures as infrequent use occurs.
• Collaborate with the Charge Nurse, who typically does not take an assignment but covers ER and provides extra support on the floor.
• Work alongside one patient care tech each shift to assist with non-invasive duties such as vitals and rounding.
• Perform respiratory treatments and patient education; RN's will manage breathing treatments and chest physiotherapy as needed.
• Read and interpret cardiac strips without the assistance of monitor techs, using Phillips brand monitors.

Qualifications:

• Current RN licensure with required certifications (BLS required; ACLS and NIH Stroke Education preferred).
• Experience with IVs and knowledge of the EPIC system is preferred.
• Ability to assist in the ER as backup if EMS is unavailable is a plus.

Additional Information:

• Weekend requirements typically involve every third weekend; holiday duties are rotated among staff.
• No call or standby requirements; floating is not expected.
• Scrub color is flexible; any color or pattern is acceptable.
